On the latest episode of the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T talked about the promo that CM Punk did from the April 6th episode of WWE Raw. Punk opened the show with a promo referencing Houston’s wrestling history and taking aim at his WrestleMania opponent in Roman Reigns. You can check out some highlights below:
On Punk Knowing His Houston HistoryL
“He seemed like he did his history lesson before he came to Houston as far as him knowing Paul Boesch. Because I think Paul Boesch may be before his era… but man, Houston wrestling was it, man. I wear the ring of Paul Boesch. This ring right here is Paul Boesch’s ring, and it’s over 60 years old.
“And for him to do that, I appreciate him giving Paul Boesch and Houston wrestling a shout. Because it definitely was a staple in my life, when I came up as a kid watching it. I loved it. Never in a million years would I have thought I would have grown up to be a professional wrestler watching those giants of men back then. So yeah, man, big up to CM Punk for that.”
On The Promo Being A Lesson To Younger Talent:
“That’s something that these young kids can learn. Because that falls under Dusty Rhodes’ playbook of cutting a promo. Knowing what city you’re in, and being able to do the research and be able to talk about it in a promo just so you know the fans gonna come on board. That is so smart and unique and old school. I don’t know if any of the young guys back there caught that, but that was a promo lesson from CM Punk.”
