The aim of this column is to serve as a facility to be creative. A hub, if you will, of ideas. I want to hear YOUR ideas. YOUR angles, characters, plots, storylines, you name it. It could be anything from a t-shirt idea to a pitch for a Wrestlemania main event program.

With that said, let’s press on in the fourth edition of ‘Creative Has Something For You.’

Your submissions

Every week, this column will look at reader submissions for booking ideas, character ideas, storyline ideas, etc etc. Scroll down for more info on how YOU, dear reader, can get involved. And if you already have, keep doing it. Got more than one idea? Well send them in you horrid little hog.

AG Awesome wants to try and revive the fortunes of Zack Ryder. It seems mad to think that Z-True Long Island story is nearly three years old now. It’s a pity that once he got so popular he was so cruelly de-pushed, but at least there were some memorable moments. Still, could this be a way to once again propel him up the card?

I think that most important of all, Zack needs to do a heel turn. As far as how high on the card he could go and what may come of this, who knows. Some people think he actually had a good opportunity to make something out of the terrible Cena/Kane/Eve storyline and he just didnt because he wasnt talented enough. Others insult his in ring prowess. Im going to just talk about something Id like to see from the guy as I think he has some potential as the right character. The guy is a chameleon with looks and gimmicks so IMHO people should admit he has the potential to do something.
As I said last week, I see a chip on his shoulder type of heel turn. Whether he is aligned with other guys who feel ignored (Kofi, Miz, and Ziggler were my first “angry dude” stable from a few months ago), the Wyatt Family thing we talked about last week, or he is solo, I think that angry man thing is the best route for his motivation. From a physical standpoint he needs to cut the flash and the corny/hokey aspects of his look and become more “debbie downer”. I think growing his hair out a bit, dying it black and combing it over his eyes, and having a black goatee (Ed Norton American History X style goat) is a good image. He should have a new shirt that is just black and white with a new saying on it, something like Raven’s old “What About ME” idea.
Ryder’s new goal will be both to take out “beloved” fan favorites that got pushes (Big E, Jericho, Swagger, Cesaro, Sheamus, Barrett types) and also going for an “I dont care” style of wrestling. Do some risky bumps that puts himself at risk and try to “hurt” his opponent, whether he gets a win or not. During promos say stuff the fans can chant along with then ridicule them for the same thing. Say how they werent there for him once someone like Daniel Bryan came along, WHAT ABOUT HIM?!

I like the idea of Ryder specifically targeting crowd favorites as his primary source of revenge/contempt. It’s a storyline that makes perfect sense, albeit it would have probably been more topical around a year ago (or maybe two) when the de-push was still reasonably fresh.

I think a turn would revitalize him. In particular I like the detail you went into about him changing his in-ring style, because that’s important when establishing a new shift in direction. The look wouldn’t be to my personal taste but I can see where you’re going with it, so horses for courses.

Ryan-o in the comments fired a couple of ideas our way. First, here’s how he’d go about getting the Authority angle over and done with.

Category: Storyline: “The Triumph of Good Over Evil” (Including: “Shane is tired of this sh#t,” “The Yes Movement Wins,” “Kane’s Redemption,” “The New Authority”)
Featuring: Shane McMahon, Daniel Bryan, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Kane, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Steve Austin …

The idea: I’ll break this up into chunks:

“Shane is tired of this sh#t” – Shane McMahon returns to challenge the Authority’s stranglehold on the WWE, in the only way that I can come up with to avoid another long, drawn out McMahon vs McMahon storyline. Essentially, Shane challenges the Authority’s role, rejecting the idea that they’ve been doing “what’s best for business,” citing … as much as you can get away with. The WWE probably wouldn’t like the honest route, citing mediocre TV ratings, struggles of the Network, stagnating growth, lack of the big TV deal they were expecting, and so on. Steph has Vince’s ear, but mom’s ready to go in a new direction, and Shane’s ready to take the WWE into the next generation. And to do so, he’s ready to prove Steph wrong with …

“The Yes Movement Wins” – Shane pushes a returning Daniel Bryan against Triple H, to prove once and for all that Bryan’s ready to carry the company, and he’s so confident of that he’s willing to put his future with the WWE on Bryan’s shoulders. Triple H/Bryan match decides who the WWE’s authority figure is, and Daniel Bryan triumphs, with a series of emotional payoffs: Bryan defeats Triple H decisively and cleanly, Brie Bella destroys Steph when she tries to get involved, and Kane turns on Randy Orton and Seth Rollins when they attempt to get involved.

“Kane’s Redemption” – Reestablishing a relationship between Kane and Bryan would be tough after the last few months, but Kane’s turn would be based on his treatment by the Authority and mounting tension with Orton/Rollins. Kane can have a heart-to-heart where he admits that Team Hell No was the only time Kane’s ever been happy in his life and try to awkwardly repair their relationship. Maybe he can start taking medication for schizophrenia? >=) It would take a while, and Brie wouldn’t like it, but Team Hell No could be reunited eventually, with an emotional return for doing so.

“The New Authority” – … should not be Shane McMahon. The aftermath of Bryan’s victory should be celebrated the next night with a gracious thank you to Bryan, and an announcement of how the WWE’s Authority will be decided in the future: Shane was wanting to offer the role to Bryan directly, but Bryan has a different idea, where the WWE Universe gets to choose the Authority figure through an online election. On this one occasion, Bryan himself will speak for the Universe, and he announces Steve Austin as the new Authority figure.

Moving forward … Steve Austin plays the role of the sheriff cleaning up a town ruled by criminals for too long, although without the running around stunning everyone part. Maybe Kane/Bryan pair up to finish off Orton/Rollins, or Bryan moves forward to challenge Lesnar, likely with Triple H getting involved to cost him the title. I’d wrap up the Bryan/Triple H storyline with a final match at WM31, with Triple H’s career on the line, leaving him to retire.

The rationale:
Shane McMahon – Shane has to be involved in any story that takes the Authority out of their current role. The only people in a position to force out Steph would be mommy and daddy, and Shane is preferable to them on TV at this point. He’d play a role only in the transitional period and periodic points from there.
Daniel Bryan – The good/evil storyline with Bryan has been so heavily pushed towards the evil side for so long that Bryan has to win, and win decisively by taking away what they value most. Driving them out of the authority position would be a good payoff for everything he’s suffered along the way. It’s probably the only payoff that would be adequate.

Kane – Kane’s getting to be an old man now, and it’s time to phase him out. A 47-year-old man still being pushed as the unstoppable monster has gone well past it’s sell-by date. It’s time to head towards his retirement, and it should be done as a face that wraps up his career in a nice bow. Ultimately, Kane’s character is pretty tragic overall … I’d like a nice, happy end to his career. I’m imagining Bryan throwing him a retirement party down the line.

The Authority Figure – WWE Network subscribers vote on a new Authority figure every however-many-months, tying into the idea of the “Yes Movement” in general into providing the Universe with a direct say in the product. In reality the WWE just puts up whoever for the vote that fits into what they want to do over the next few months, but you can have fun with those choices, and the choices have to be good and the votes fair for it to benefit WWE Network subscriptions. You could have a lot of fun with this type of system, though … my choice for the second Commish run would be Edge & Christian as a team, with Edge more sympathetic to the faces, and Christian towards the heels, and an overall push towards tag team wrestling under their reign. Brett Hart vs Shawn Michaels political campaigns, where the winner returns to TV for three/six months. That kind of storyline would play well into the WWE Network’s value (and, specifically, prevents vote-stuffing by limiting it to subscribers), lends itself well to Twitter campaigns, etc. Let Bo Dallas campaign to be the Commish for a while. Guys like the Rock can return without having to be in the ring.

Previous examples: Mick Foley as commissioner is my inspiration for the commish role being fun.

I was thinking of trimming this down slightly when I first read it, but there’s lots of good stuff there so I went ahead a kept it.

I’m not sure how I feel about the Authority stuff (real-life, that is). I think there’s potential with it but it feels very basic and a little bland at times. Your scenario is anything but, and I’m all for some of those names returning.

I think Shane picking Bryan as his guy to lead the company would be a great way to re-introduce both of them to TV. I’m not sure if I’m ready for another McMahon vs McMahon tale but if it’s with the goal of switcing things up a bit on TV and interacting with some new characters, as well as some exciting returns, then I’d be all for it. I also like the ideas you have for Kane.

And, while you’re at it…

Category: Tag team storyline
Featuring: Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston

The idea: Move Ziggler/Kingston into a major face tag team role together, with a long-term move towards the team’s inevitable breakup. I would book it as almost an accidental team that ends up working — putting Ziggler and Kofi against Bray Wyatt in Raw/Smackdown matches, where Erick Rowan and Luke Harper get involved to ensure Wyatt’s victories. Ziggler and Kofi look to team up to cover each other’s backs, and builds up to a tag team match with Rowan/Harper, preferably where the Wyatt Family are already holding the tag titles. Ziggler/Kingston win the tag titles and start becoming a true tag team — call them the Showstoppers or something along those lines, segs based on being a bit of an odd-couple, with Ziggler trying to get Kofi to be a bit more brash. Push them as the cocky faces, letting them play off the Uso’s as well as the plethora of heel teams around right now. A three-way feud between the Uso’s, Wyatt Family, and Ziggler/Kofi could produce some incredible matches and play off of the old Hardys/E&C/Dudleys feud of the past. Long term, I’d be fine with either guy turning heel on the other for all of the typical wrestling reasons — jealousy, one guy losing their matches, accidental impact, over a woman, etc. (Or have them both go heel and reform the Four Horsemen with Cody Rhodes and Curtis Axel… that might just be my own personal dream scenario, though.)

The rationale: I think Ziggler and Kingston both have tremendous potential that isn’t being realized at the moment. I also think their in-ring styles could pair together very nicely, both as partners and opponents in the future. The tag division is finally starting to perk up in the WWE, and Ziggler/Kofi could be a great addition to it, able to provide great matches with anyone and work against anyone, face or heel, and bring actual tag-team-based storytelling to the division, complete with people talking and everything! If you break them up down the road, you’d have a solid singles feud against two guys that both need to be utilized a lot more, and the entire storyline would move both men forward in the pecking order, out of the purgatory they’ve essentially been in (at least until recently for Dolph). I’d have Ziggler wrap up his IC-title interest and have the Wyatts pick up the tag titles before moving in this direction, of course.

Previous examples: Plenty of examples in tag team history. Strike Force would be a pretty similar one — two singles stars that pair up almost accidentally to build a popular tag team, then break apart and feud.

The actual mechanics of this work quite well, and as you said there’s numerous examples of it throughout history so it wouldn’t be the hardest thing in the world to book.

My only gripe s with the personell. I could handle watching them team occasionally, but I don’t think I ever want to see them wrestle or feud with each-other again. I remember a time when they were facing off nearly every week at one point with the matches largely turning out the same way in terms of style and storytelling, with wins and losses being traded for the sake of it. It’d have to be much different if they went back down that route.

I’d give Dolph another partner. Maybe even Zack Ryder who was discussed earlier in a different scenario. They’d have good chemistry, it’d revitalise Ryder too, and they’ve actually been doing some stuff together recently on the JBL show. Ok, not that that should constitute a feud, but still. The actual idea is good here, I just don’t think I could handle another match between Dolph/Kofi.

Want to submit your ideas? Wanna dance? Well strike out the tune, baby:

Here’s what I’m looking for as a rough guideline – Using the template below as a reference (don’t feel like you have to stick to it or use it all), have a crack at the following:

Category: Angle/character/gimmick/promo/storyline, etc. Basically what the idea is for.
Featuring: Any specific worker/workers you may have in mind.
The idea: What’s it about?
The rationale: What’s the goal for the idea? Does it have specific aim, I.e to get somebody over, to expand a gimmick, or simply just to have a little fun?
Previous examples: Similar ideas you may have borrowed from to form your own idea.

EWR on 411 mkII

(note: This is unrelated to the initial part of the column, where an all manner of suggestions can be provided depending on what transpired on TV that week).

A few years ago, Leonard Hayhurst introduced EWR on 411 in his 10th Day News Report column. Using EWR as a facility to book shows using storylines and characters which had a great degree of reader input, it became a hugely popular part of his 10th Day News Reports on the wrestling section and actually ran for a few YEARS before ultimately he had to abstain because of work commitments.

This week we finally kick off the diary. I’ve auto-booked us up to this Friday, so we start with Smackdown and we follow on from the real-life events of Raw on Monday.

Some other points of interest-

-NXT is currently the development system. I’ve set up a TV show with it in the game, but unless someone wants to take that part of it over I’m going to hit the auto-booker on it for now. But if people want to have a bash at it, feel free to drop me a line. Maybe different people can book it each week, or send me what they’d like to do and I’ll put it through the engine for them.

– I’m also keeping Main Event as a mid-week show. The Smackdown and Raw entries will be far more detailed, but Main Event gives us a chance to experiment more and get more midcarders over.

-Again, if you want to hire and fire people, give me a few suggestions and I’ll see what I can do. Two strong current suggestions I’ve had are AJ Styles and Kurt Angle, so keep them coming and wait and see.

-My original intention was to try and keep things reasonably similar to real-life in terms of performer’s deals, i.e not booking people like Lesnar and Jericho every week. But it’s your game.

(NOTE: I’ve copied and pasted that blurb from last week, but yes, absolutely get back to me with any of the above questions/suggestions)

Lastly, in a strange way this is a dream job now. I used to love these EWR write-ups back in the day and to do one now is an eDream come true. I can’t promise it’ll be anywhere near as good as the original, but let’s see how we get on. With Night of Champions on the horizon and a lot of stuff already set it stone, it wasn’t an easy week to completely shift a change in direction, but nevertheless the new era starts…now.

Smackdown for 12/9/14

Triple H gloats about the damage his men inflicted on Roman Reigns on Raw, and warns us that if anyone tries to stand in the Authority’s way tonight they’ll suffer a similar fate. This brings out John Cena. HHH must think he’s the mutts nuts after what went down on Monday. He wants to warn people about getting in the Authority’s way? Well now, he’s in the way. Move him. Gladly. Tonight he can face Seth Rollins, Kane and Randy Orton in the main event along with two partners of his choosing. That is, if he can find actually find any. Cena accepts.

Cesaro takes on Mark Henry. Henry looks ready to put away the King of Swing with the World’s Strongest Slam, but Rusev and Lana appear. Rusev jawjacks with him on the apron. Henry charges but Rusev drops to the floor and flees. Henry turns round into a massive uppercut from Cesaro, who then impressively nails the Neutraliser for the pin. *1/2

Post-match Cesaro joins Rusev in a post-match beatdown on Henry until Sheamus runs in to make the save. The faces get the upperhand and Sheamus lines up Cesaro for a Brogue Kick. He goes for it…Cesaro ducks and he nails Henry by accident. Sheamus tends to him, but Rusev sneaks up on him and nails him with his thrust kick. Cesaro grabs Sheamus’ US title and poses over the fallen Irishman to mock him. Lana whispers something to Rusev…who then decks Cesaro for good measure with a thrust kick too. They go to leave, but Rusev pauses for a moment. He turns and picks up the US title. He eyes it coldly, before dropping it and storming off.

Time now for Miz TV. Miz has Damien Sandow stunt doubling, a make-up artist and his own personal Cameraman. He keeps welcoming us to Miz TV, but isn’t happy with the take and keeps making his own cameraman re-do it, much to the annoyance of the live crowd (and Kevin Dunn, I’m guessing). Just when it looks like they’ve got the shot, he demands more make-up. Then he gets a phone call from his publicist and we go to commercial. When we return, Miz is still on his cell, and by this point even the road agents standing by gorilla are trying to get him to wind the segment up. Finally Dolph Ziggler has had enough, and runs in to destroy the set. Sandow charges, but takes the Zig Zag for his troubles while Miz and his entourage escape. Miz is pissed while Dolph plays to the crowd.

Backstage Renee Young goes to catch a quick word with Dolph. At Night of Champions Mr. Hollywood is going to bomb at the box office and Miz TV will go off the air, permanently. Just then, RIC FLAIR walks in, gives Rene the eye, and pats Dolph on the back. Good work tonight champ, but remember, that strap means you’ve got a target on you. You wanna keep it, you gotta learn to style and profile like the Naitch, you dig? Ziggler nods. Hey, wanna grab a drink? He’s the Nature Boy, what kind of question is that? Actually, Dolph was talking to Renee. Oh, snap.

Big Show defeats Bray Wyatt by DQ, after he gets attacked by Luke Harper & Erick Rowan, who join their master in a 3-on-1 assault. Show looks to have the match won after hitting a punch and prepares for the Chokeslam, but Rowan & Harper quickly immobilise him before he hits it. Post-match they beat the tar out of Show and Bray nails Sister Abigail for good measure. *3/4

The assault continues after the bell. Rowan & Harper toss Show into the ring-steps and start to rip up the padding from ringside to expose the concrete floor. Bray grabs Show and nails him with a vicious Sister Abigail on the concrete. Show is totally unconscious. The Wyatt’s look to leave as officials and EMT’s tend the fallen giant, but Bray pushes them out of the way and hits the move a second time on the concrete. There’s grave concern for Show as the Wyatt’s cackle over the fine mess they’ve made.

Jack Swagger faces Bo Dallas. Down the stretch, he gets Bo in the Patriot Act, but he squirms out of it and gets to the outside, taking a countout loss in the process. Zeb Coulter brings in Old Glory and Swagger raises it aloft. As they celebrate, Bo sneaks up on Swagger from behind and hits him with the Bo-dog before running off again. Zeb tends to Jack as Bo flashes his trademark shit-eating grin. **

We see footage from earlier in the day of Michael Cole attempting to conduct a sit-down interview with the Dust Brothers. Goldust just stares at him while Stardust keeps blowing glitter at him every time he tries to ask a question. Cole abandons the interview. Goldust turns to the camera and warns The Usos that they’re not just a couple of bizarre freaks, they’re dangerous, cold-blooded psychopaths too. Stardust hisses, and warns them that the stars will soon align, and shortly, they’ll find the cosmic key which will unlock a treasure chest. A chest (Goldust inhales) containing the Tag Team titles.

Rollins and Kane smirk as enter the ring waiting for the other combatants. As Orton makes his way down the ramp, Chris Jericho sneaks up behind him on crutches and starts wailing away on Orton’s legs with them. Kane exits the ring to meet them on the ramp but John Cena sprints out from the back and takes him out first. Jericho chases Orton to the back and that leaves Cena and Rollins one on one for now. Rollins goes for the Curb Stomp but Cena catches his foot and transitions into the STF. Rollins holds on and Kane recovers makes the save. It’s two-on-one for a bit until a bandaged up Roman Reigns limps through the crowd down to ringside. Kane goes to meet him and gets Superman Punched. Rollins is beside himself and turns to run……right into an AA for the pin. Reigns and Cena celebrate as Smackdown concludes. **3/4

Raw for 15/9/14

Triple H and Stephanie address us live from their office before the opening credits roll. They plug the network and Night of Champions. HHH tried to warn people not to cross them, but it seems that one or two superstars didn’t get the memo. With that in mind, Chris Jericho will now face Randy Orton at the PPV, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins will now do battle in a street fight, and, because Cena obviously wants them to test his resolve, he’s going to get the chance to do just that. Because now, on Sunday, he’s going to fight Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight title in a Last Man Standing match.

Sheamus goes one on one with Rusev in a non-title match. It’s a bit of a slugfest but Rusev keeps getting the upper hand thanks to Lana’s distractions. Finally the Irishman regains control and signals for the Brogue Kick, but Lana stands in front of Rusev and Sheamus puts on the breaks. While the ref tries to admonish her, Cesaro sneaks in and drills Sheamus with a massive uppercut and bails. Rusev hits the Thrust Kick on him for good measure, but Mark Henry comes down to the ring and they brawl. The ref calls a DQ in favour of Rusev due to Henry’s interference. Rusev don’t want none of this and retreats. Henry helps up Sheamus, but he’s pissed about Henry making him lose the match, even if it was only a DQ. He storms off with his title. **1/2

The Uso’s scheduled match with RybAxel never gets going because Gold and Stardust attack them right in the middle of their entrance. They drag them down to the ring. Renee Young tries to catch up with Stephanie McMahon regarding what we just saw. She says the Tag Titles match goes ahead at Night of Champions. If The Uso’s refuse to compete, they forfeit the belts. What if they aren’t medically cleared? Her husband has twice finished matches in the past with a torn quad, don’t give her that B.S. If you haven’t got the heart to go out there even when not at 100%, you don’t deserve to be a superstar. Nikki Bella brushes Renee aside. She begs Steph to add Brie to the Diva’s title match at the PPV. Isn’t she worried about Brie possibly costing her the title? On the contrary, she wants to do it by pinning her own sister to the mat and making it the most humiliating night of her life. Steph agrees to it.

Bo Dallas walks around handing out pamphlets about “BO-lieveing” to the fans at ringside during Jack Swagger’s match with Heath Slater. Zeb grabs one of them and rips it up. Bo points and laughs before Swagger chases him to the back. *1/4

Renee bumps into John Cena. How does he feel now that his match with Lesnar is Last Man Standing? It doesn’t make a huge difference, because every match with Brock Lesnar is Last Man Standing. It’s the ultimate endurance test. Brock proved he can whip his ass at Summerslam, but this is a whole different ball game, and at Night of Champions he’ll pull out all the stops to keep him down for the ten count.

Chris Jericho busts out the highlight reel and Roman Reigns is his guest. Roman knows that while they’re both a little wounded from last week, they’re still here, still ready to fight, and still ready to kick some corporate ass. Orton and Rollins saunter out to the top of the stage. There’s a staredown, then HHH’s music hits. He looks at the four combatants, looks like he’s about to speak, but “……..Do I really have to say it?”

Reigns and Jericho fight valiantly but Orton and Rollins are clearly the fresher duo and control most of the match. They work over Jericho’s left leg that he injured in the cage match last week and it takes its toll. Orton gets a little too cocky though and gets caught with a desperation Codebreaker. Hot tag, Reigns cleans house. He clotheslines Rollins to the outside and they brawl. As the ref gets distracted trying to get them back in, Kane sneaks in and Chokeslams Jericho. Reigns gets back in and Spears him, but takes a while to get up due to not being 100%, and Rollins catches him with the Curb Stomp for the pin. **3/4

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman are out for the main event promo. Heyman warns Cena that pride comes before a fall, and despite impressively overcoming the odds that the suits have put in front of him, they are nothing like the odds that Brock Lesnar will put against him at the PPV. Heyman and his client are going to offer Cena something they’ve never, ever done with one of Brock’s potential victims before and offer him a free pass. Don’t show up at Night of Champions, and they’ll leave him be. His career goes on, possibly for another decade, and he avoids getting emasculated for the second month in a row. He still gets to enjoy making a living from his ridiculous array of multi-coloured t-shirts, wristbands and other abhorrent merchandise items. He gets to carry on shilling his action figures, appearing on talk shows, and he gets to have his image shoved down the throats of anyone gullible enough to actually buy in to the hollow, worthless words about hustle, loyalty and respect and never giving up. The latter is especially important, because on Sunday, if you don’t give up, if you don’t quit, if you don’t stay down for the count of ten, Brock will make you want to quit LIFE by the time he’s done with you. Heyman carries on spouting his verbal attack, when Cena runs in via the crowd and quickly drags Heyman to the outside and decks him with a punch. Cena gets in the ring and gets right in Brock’s face. Brock just laughs at him. That supposed to impress him? Cena smirks and kicks Lesnar right in the balls……..and Lesnar doesn’t even budge. “Oh, shit.” Lesnar scoops him up and nails him with the F5. Lesnar drapes the title over his shoulder, before going outside and draping Heyman over the other. He struts to the back as Cena watches on dismayed as we go off the air.
