No DQ Match: AJ Styles vs. The Sandman: This is a no DQ match, and one you likely either forgot about or didn’t know happened. Sandman starts of by dancing with and making out with Lollipop the cage dancer. As Sandman does his entrance routine, Styles takes the opportunity to wipe him out with a tope to end the beer drinking, PARTY FOUL! Back in and Styles simply out grapples Sandman, and then works him over with strikes. Styles now gets a trashcan and throws it at Sandman’s head and connects. Back in and Sandman fires back, and throws the can at Styles’ face. Sandman now gets a table, and makes a bridge at ringside. Styles cuts him off and puts Sandman on the table. He heads up top and splashes through the table as Sandman rolled off. Back in and Styles avoids kendo shots and hits a superkick. He wedges a chair in the corner, and Sandman cuts off the clash with a kendo stick shot. Sandman then sends Styles into the chair and we get a ref bump. They work up top, and Raven arrives and attacks Sandman, allowing Styles to hit the clash off the ropes for the win. AJ Styles defeated The Sandman @ 6:10 via pin [**] This was part of Styles’ quest o prove to Vince Russo that he could work any style and succeed. This was only ok, and showed off the typical shit booking of Russo at the time. The ref bump meant nothing as he immediately recovered, plus it’s no DQ and you didn’t need it to cover the run in. And here’s your answer if you ever wondered if Styles & Sandman ever faced off.

Bully Ray and Devon vs. Tommy Dreamer and Abyss: Team 3D came in through the crowd. The crowd then chanted for tables before the bell even sounded. Bully and Devon shook hands with Dreamer, but Abyss refused to shake hands. Dreamer and Devon to start. They do some slow counters and then into the Indie standoff. Abyss then tags himself in, and demands to go one on one with Bully. Bully tags in and here we go. They trade big rights center ring, Bully then with repeated rights, and then the uranage on Abyss. Abyss no sells that and chokeslams Bully, who says fuck off and pops right up and flexes at Abyss. Boot by Abyss, a slam on Bully follows and then off the ropes and misses the splash. Tag to Devon, off the ropes and Abyss slams them together. They fight back and toss Abyss to the floor. Dreamer in with rights, but then eats the reverse 3D. Abyss rolls back in, rights by Devon and then Bully slams Dreamer. They toss Abyss to the floor, Devon up top and the wazzup head butt to Dreamer. Team 3D calls for the tables and they are those little, evil Japanese tables! Abyss back in and takes Bully to the floor. Dreamer to the floor and brawls with Bully. He then spits water into Devon’s face and Abyss uses the ring bell on Bully. They all brawl into the crowd; Bully rings the ring bell on Abyss’ balls. And now they start to throw in a ton of weapons into the ring. Kendo sticks, road signs, traffic cones and we get ECW chants. Back in the ring and they all have weapons and face off. Dreamer and Bully have a sword fight with the kendo sticks, DDT by Dreamer on Ray and Abyss with the chokeslam on Devon and he covers for 2. Bully slams Dreamer into a trashcan, but then runs into a black-hole slam and Abyss covers for 2. Abyss with chair shots to Devon, Dreamer and Bully to the floor. Abyss looks for the Earthquake squash, but Devon busts his nuts with the chair. Devon sets up the table, lays Abyss on it (partly) and heads up top. Dreamer cuts him off, heads up with him and looks for the superplex. Bully cuts him off and powerbombs Dreamer through the table. Abyss takes Bully down, and then grabs the bag of tacks. He spills them out, looks to chokeslam both of 3D, but they fight him off and flapjack Abyss into the tacks. Dreamer with kendo stick shots to both, but runs into the 3D, partly on the tacks and that is all. Bully Ray and Devon defeated Tommy Dreamer @ 13:00 via pin [*] I did not enjoy this at all. The beginning part of the match with the “wrestling” was slow and uninspired. They went into playing the hits mode, with the hardcore stuff, which woke up the crowd a bit. But I felt that it was generally slow and did nothing to get me invested in what they were doing. Abyss was painful to watch these days. The whole thing just felt lazy to me. The fact that guys like Aries and Roode were sitting at home for this show and this got a spot was so disappointing.

The Steel Asylum Match: Alex Shelley vs. Jay Lethal vs. Curry Man vs. Chris Sabin vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Johnny Devine vs. Petey Williams vs. Shark Boy vs. Super Eric: They all brawl to begin the match. Dutt gets a swank tilt a whirl on Rave, but Petey gets a jawbreaker on him. Devine runs wild with knee strikes, Super Eric stops him and levels him with a clothesline. The Guns double-team Eric, but Curry Man and Sharky attack them. The Guns battle back and take out the Super Heroes with some double team moves. They continue to beat down Sharky, Curry Man whips Jay into Devine. Hip attack by Curry Man and then a clothesline by Sharky. Petey tries to climb, stopped and we get a SEVEN MAN SUPLEX SPOT. Nice. Dutt and Jay battle as they climb, Petey drops Rave and climbs. Rave over, knocked into the tree of woe and the Guns with double charging boots. Curry Man slams the Guns together, back elbow to Sabin and then climbs. Alex over to stop him, climbs as well and Curry Man gets a jawbreaker. Sabin with a leaping Enziguri to Curry Man, he climbs and Sharky is over and gets a flatliner off of the top to Sabin! Devine and Eric up, but Eric clotheslines him off. Dutt and Jay climb, jabs by Jay and Dutt slams Jay to the cage and he falls. Curry Man crotches Dutt, and then gets a back breaker off of the top! Rave then levels Curry Man, sets Alex up top and as he goes for a suplex Jay is over. He climbs and uses Alex as a stepladder. Rave up and a SUPER RANA BY Curry Man! Alex with the big splash and Eric then gets a clothesline! DOUBLE DVD ON DEVINE AND DUTT BY ERIC~! He climbs now, the Guns stop him. They get a double team cutter/splash combo! Eric tossed to the cage by the Guns, they work over Curry Man and then Sharky with the wishbone. The same for Rave. They pose, grab Petey, but he fights back but he battles back and Alex nails Sabin. Sliced bread countered…CANADIAN DESTROYER ON ALEX! Petey climbs, Sabin up with him and they brawl. Sharky up…DOUBLE SHAKRY STUNNER! Rave gets the rock the world on Sharky, but Devine gets the Devine intervention and Rave lands on his head! Devine climbs, and then a moonsault onto Jay! Devine climbs again, Dutt up with him and Curry Man over and climbs. To the mat, SPICE RACK on Devine! Curry Man pulls Dutt off of the ropes, and Curry Man PRESS SLAMS DUTT INTO THE CORNER! Curry Man Dance! Curry Man climbs, he gets to the top portion and Dutt follows. Jay is up after him, Dutt pulls Curry Man off and he face plants! Dutt climbs for the opening, Jay over with him and they trade rights as they hang upside down from the top! Jay makes his way out and wins! Jay Lethal won Steel Asylum @ 12:00 [***½] This was a wild and very good match that played to the stipulation well. Crazy spots prevailed and everyone got to look good; the gimmick was really hit and miss, but this was tremendously fun.

– End scene.

Overall, not a good collection of freebies, but if you have time, the Steel Asylum is a lot of fun and very good.
