AEW has recently seen a spike in its rating and viewership numbers, and The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer believes it’s because there are multiple strong contenders vying for the AEW World Title currently held by Maxwell Jacob Friedman. During the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer theorized that AEW showcasing various talents seeking to challenge for the AEW World Title is boosting interest in the promotion.

Meltzer explained, “I do feel that this multiple championship challenger thing – cause Swerve is going to be back in the picture, obviously, Andrade, Page. Omega will be back in the picture. Brody King is in the picture.” He continued, “There’s probably going to be others in the picture – that’s really boosted interest in AEW, I think there’s no doubt about that.”

Brody King picked up a huge win over MJF at last Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in a Title Eliminator Match. As a result, King will now receive a title shot against MJF at AEW Grand Slam Australia on February 14.

Also on Dynamite, Andrade El Idolo picked up a win over former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, which also puts him solidly in the title picture. Plus, as Meltzer mentioned, former champs Omega, Hangman Page, and Swerve Strickland are also in the AEW World Title picture, vying for the belt.

As noted, the last two weeks of AEW Dynamite have seen the show draw some of its biggest audiences in six months, at 653,000 viewers for January 29 and 654,000 viewers for this week’s episode on February 4. Additionally, this week’s episode drew a 0.15 rating in the key demo, which is Dynamite’s highest key demo rating in three months.
