During today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez debated over the feud between The Usos, LA Knight, and CM Punk, and how WWE might be setting up the next contender for Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Title. Alvarez pointed out how all four men are gunning for a world title match. According to Meltzer, CM Punk is penciled in for another world title shot. Meltzer stated on all four guys wanting a title shot and CM Punk, “I would suspect that they all are, but CM Punk is for sure [getting a title shot].” So it appears Punk will definitively receive a title shot against Seth Rollins at some point later on.
Alvarez then predicted a Fatal 4-Way or Triple Threat Match to determine Rollins’ next contender. He explained, “I think what we’re getting is one of these 2025 four-ways where the winner is going to get a championship match.” He added, “We’ve got four guys. We’ve got Jimmy [Uso], Jey [Uso], LA Knight, and Punk. They all hate each other. They all want this title, at the very least, a three-way with Jimmy not involved, but we’ll see.”
Meltzer expressed his opinion that all of Triple H’s babyfaces need to have an edge and that WWE doesn’t have any “squeaky clean” babyfaces right now. When Alvarez argued that Jey Uso was a squeaky clean babyface before his feud with LA Knight started, Meltzer stated, “A babyface is not scared, a babyface is not going through mental issues, no…” When Alvarez asked why a “babyface can’t doubt themself,” Meltzer responded, “The babyface is supposed to be the hero or guy that doesn’t doubt themself. No, not a guy on top in a championship situation.”
He continued on Jey Uso, “He was not booked like a squeaky clean babyface at all, and then at the end, he’s got the total edge.” Meltzer also explained on Triple H’s booking philosophy of babyfaces needing an “edge,” “Everyone’s got to have an edge. I don’t think they believe in that type of babyface.” He expanded that characters like CM Punk and LA Knight can’t be their characters without a certain edge.
During last night’s WWE Raw, LA Knight and CM Punk reluctantly teamed up against The Usos, with LA Knight scoring a pinfall after Punk hit Jey Uso with a Go 2 Sleep. It’s not yet been stated on how they will determine the next title contender for Seth Rollins, who faces Cody Rhodes for the Crown Jewel Championship later this weekend at WWE Crown Jewel Perth. The premium live event takes place at the RAC Arena on Saturday, October 11 in Perth, Australia. It will air live on the ESPN App.
