The New York Times reports that the United States is looking to implement a ban on noncompete agreements in labor contracts. The proposal from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) would reportedly block companies from limiting employees working for a rival company.

As many wrestling fans who follow this site know, noncompete agreements are typically a significant issue in WWE contracts. Usually, when a WWE or NXT talent gets released, they are under a non-compete period, where they are still paid by WWE, for either 30 or 90 days. Also, WWE does not typically allow talents under contract to work in other wrestling companies, even though their talents are classified as independent contractors and are not given full employee benefits.

How FTC’s proposal, if it goes through, could potentially affect wrestlers under contract to promotions such as WWE, AEW, and Impact Wrestling remains to be seen.
