More on Ric Flair’s Last Match, Original Plans For Bout, Press Conference Video
A new report has some additional details on plans for Ric Flair’s Last Match including the original plans for the bout. As noted, the event will take place on July 31st as part of Starrcast V. It was announced in a press conference today that the following matches are set:
* Impact World Championship Match: Josh Alexander (c) vs. Jacob Fatu
* The Wolves vs. The Motor City Machine Guns
* Ric Flair vs. TBD
Fightful Select reports that the working plan for Flair’s bout currently is a tag team match and that there are some names in mind, but there’s no word on if anything has been finalized yet. As has been noted, the original plan was to have Flair and FTR face Ricky Steamboat and the Rock N’ Roll Express but there were several things that got in the way of that. Steamboat confirmed last month that he had been approached for the match but decided to turn it down.
Fightful notes that Steamboat did have some interest in the match, but his asking price was “extremely high” and there were meetings, but terms could not be met. FTR additionally had not yet gained clearance from AEW’s Tony Khan for the match.
The Starrcast event has been in the works since All Out last year, though original plans were for it to take place in Chicago and not Nashville where it currently is. Chicago will have a “Top Guy Weekend” for Conrad Thompson’s Ad Free Shows.
Court Bauer responded to a request for comment regarding the Alexander vs. Fatu match and said, “The Summer of surprises continues. The fans have asked for MLW vs. IMPACT and now it goes down. A historic interpromotional title fight for a memorable night in Nashville.”
