More On Women’s North American Title Change On WWE NXT

The NXT Women’s North American Championship change on this week’s NXT was unintentional, and a new report has a couple of details on the reaction backstage. As noted, Thea Hail won the title from Blake Monroe on this week’s show, which was not a planned change. Monroe was intended to kick out of the pin attempt but the pinfall was counted, making Hail the new champion.
There’s been a lot of speculation over who is at “fault” for the matter. A report from Fightful Select notes that referee Felix Fernandez was praised backstage for counting the match as a shoot. However, some pushed back heavily on that and said that Fernandez got heat for not checking on Monroe when she was hurt. It has been reported that Monroe got the wind knocked out of her by Hail’s senton and she tried to get the shoulder up, but it was too late.
It was also reported that the timing was very bad, as WWE was wrapping up its filming for the remainder of 2025 episodes and plans had been booked for the next few weeks, resulting in fast changes needing to be made to the show. Fightful Select has confirmed that people had to physically return to the WWE Performance Center to re-tape materials in order to accommodate the title change. NXT pre-tape segments are usually run on Mondays before the taping, with talent usually required to stay through the taping the next day.
