– On the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio (via WrestlingInc.com), Dave Meltzer offered more details onto how the planned WrestleMania 35 main event has changed as of late. Originally, the apparent plan was a gradual build for Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey in a one-on-one match.

That plan started almost a year ago at WrestleMania 34, which saw Flair cleanly defeat Asuka and ending her unbeaten streak. WWE was also planning a Natalya vs. Rousey feud, which would’ve seen Natalya turn heel. However, the Observer notes that the passing of Natalya’s father, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, altered WWE’s plan to turn Natalya heel against Rousey.

Previously, Rousey was going to face Becky Lynch in a one-off Champion vs. Champion match last November at Survivor Series. However, Lynch was injured and suffered a concussion due to a punch from Nia Jax. As a result, Charlotte Flair came in as a last-minute replacement for Lynch in the match.

According to Meltzer, the ending for Flair vs. Rousey at Survivor Series was the same booking plan for the ending of the match when it was going to be Lynch vs. Rousey, with Flair going berserk with a kendo stick. The reaction to the match apparently caused WWE to change their plans once again.

At one point, WWE wanted to book Rousey vs. Flair at Royal Rumble and then Rousey vs. Lynch one-on-one at WrestleMania 35. These plans were then scrapped because WWE officials decided they wanted Flair, Rousey, and Lynch to all be part of the same match at WrestleMania.

Going by another report from the Observer Radio, WWE is planning to add Charlotte Flair to the match at some point, to make the Raw women’s title bout at Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 35.

Of course, Meltzer has noted in the past that “plans can change.” As of now, the announced Raw women’s title match is Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 35.
