Backstage Details On Changes In How WWE Handles NXT Callups

WWE has been handling callups from NXT differently in the past year, especially compared to the Vince McMahon era. Fightful Select reports that WWE is now handling NXT callups in a more flexible way by allowing talent to finish up what they have going on on NXT since the easier main roster schedule usually allows for extra time anyway. WWE has also been keeping the callups closer to the vest.

Under McMahon, WWE handled callups from NXT by often immediately pulling talent from NXT, creating disruptions to NXT creative plans.

The report also notes that WWE has been stressing the importance of having veteran wrestlers with TV experience both at the Performance Center and the show itself, which further explains why they don’t want to pull talent off of NXT as soon as they are called up, and that some talent has been brought into NXT with the NXT run being the main intent, not an eventual main roster callup.
