Rey Mysterio on Dealing With a Painkiller Addiction During His WWE Career

– During a recent appearance on the Impaulsive podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio discussed overcoming a painkiller addiction during his WWE career. According to Mysterio, his wife caught him during a vacation and gave him an ultimatum. Below are some highlights (via WrestlingInc.com):

Rey Mysterio on his wife discovering his painkiller issue: “My wife caught me. One time when we were on vacation, she saw that I was just out of it completely. So she gave me an ultimatum. She goes, ‘When we get back home, you can either take your pills or you can take your family. You choose.'”

On telling WWE he needed to go to do a stint in rehab: “That really opened me up and it made me a stronger person. I remember [after] getting back home to San Diego, [I] flew to TV the next day, spoke to Vince [McMahon], and I told him I need to check myself in [to rehab]. I need some time off. He was cool with it. He was like, ‘It takes a man to own up to what you’re doing.'”

Late last month, Rey Mysterio was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2023. The following night, he defeated his son Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 39: Night 1.
