Ric Flair has fired off at WWE for apparently putting the kibosh on his involvement with lifestyle & apparel brand Roots Of Fight. Flair posted to his Twitter account on Tuesday morning, saying that he has found out that he can’t work with the brand per an edict by WWE.
Roots Of Fight has a number of wrestling-related pieces of apparel available for purchase, all for WWE icons like Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, Andre the Giant, Rey Mysterio, and the Iron Sheik. CM Punk partnered with the company for merchandise in 2023.
Flair wrote:
“I woke up this morning to find out that I’m no longer allowed to be with @rootsoffight per @WWE. Let me think- I’m the only wrestler to ever be on 30 for 30 & ranked in the top 25 of all time, an Emmy nominated documentary-courtesy of the WWE, which I should have won but l lost to a team not an individual. 21 world championships, but I always played by your rules and kept it at 16. Paid Vince McMahon back 800k when he said he would forgive it. I honored it. Fortunately, I still make 1 million dollars from the GREAT Ryan Fiterman @FitermanSports. 500k from Ric Flair Drip. And thank God for @TonyKhan. What more of my legacy do you want to destroy WWE? You all grew up loving me and i set the bar. Now you are trying to kill me and diminish my legacy. Thank you, but it ain’t happening. Nice try. LFG!”
It’s not clear why Flair would be pulled from association with Roots of Fight. It is worth noting that as of this writing, two pieces of Flair merchandise are available on Roots Of Fight — less than many of the stars but more than Andre and Iron Sheik, who have just one piece each.
Flair exited WWE in 2021 and had a “Last Match” independently in July of 2022. He signed with AEW in 2023, though he hasn’t appeared on AEW TV since early 2024 during the lead-up to Sting’s retirement match at AEW Revolution. 2026 has seen him deal with a few public relations issues, as he apologized to fans who had bad Cameo experiences with him and joined Mike Tyson in a lawsuit filed against former executives of cannabis company Carma, accusing them of fraud and more.
