Seth Rollins Thought Polygamy Was The Answer Before Meeting Becky Lynch

During a recent interview with Bert Kreischer on Something’s Burning, WWE Superstars and real-life power couple, Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, were asked by Kreischer how they met and got together. Rollins and Lynch shared the story of meeting backstage for the first time in WWE in 2014, when Rollins was in another relationship at the time.

The two maintained a close friendship for years before they started dating and eventually got married and started a family together. Below are some highlights:

Seth Rollins on How His Romance With Becky Lynch Began

“Yeah. 2019. So I was going through an existential romantic crisis at the end of 2018, where I thought polygamy was the answer, and she was guiding me through this as a friend, and I became single, she was single, and then I was starting to make some, you know, ‘Hey, maybe we should fool around a little bit. Maybe we should just be more than friends.’ Casual, you know what I mean? Very casual. No problem. Like what I just think you’re hot. Let’s hang out and tongue kiss or something. Super flirty. Very flirty. Very flirty. And then it all came to a head in Phoenix. It was Royal Rumble weekend. One thing led to another. She was like, ‘Shit or get off the pot.’ Essentially, she came up to me, and she was like, ‘You’ve been all talk. Let’s go.’ And I was like, so scared, so nervous, super hot chick coming on to me. Oh, I didn’t know this was going to happen. All right, let’s make it happen. … Then we hit it off, and we started like hanging out every week when we would see each other at … So, we don’t tell nobody. Tight to the vest. We were terrible at it, though. Oh my god. So bad at it. But then, like you know, again I was in my full, you know, I think polygamy is the answer for me, mindset, and she was like, ‘I don’t want to do this. What are we doing?’ She’s like, ‘Look, we should just be friends. You should go do what you want to do. So excited about this. If we’re not going to be in, then let’s not waste our time. Like, let’s just, I don’t want to do this thing. Like, you go do your thing, and I’ll do my thing, and we’ll be friends, and it’ll be great, and I’m happy for you that you found this side of yourself, and I’ll support you, but like I’m going to be your best friend.'”

Lynch on How She Was Putting on Some Emotional Armor With Rollins

“I will be your best friend. I am so good at being a great friend, like, and so I had this revelation, like if I’m doing this thing with him, but like I’m very aware that it can’t go any further than I’m like wearing some armor, so I’m not like feeling anything, so what’s the point? And then if I go in just being like, well, there’s no point in this, then there’s no point. So let’s let him sow his wild oats. That’s what he wants. And he just wants a friend. He needs a friend. And I can be the best friend ever. This is so great.”

Rollins on Why He Thought Being Single and Polygamy Was the Answer

“I was a serial monogamist in my 20s. And so I thought this is why I got to polygamy. It’s a whole thing. But the point is, I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be in a relationship. I was like, ‘Ah, I just keep fudging up these relationships. It’s screwing over these girls, and I get out of these relationships too late cuz I’m on the road. I’m too lazy to make to break up with them, and it’s just easier to just keep–‘ Anyway, I was like, basically I needed to be single, is what I thought in my mind. But I turned it into I can never be in a relationship in my whole life. I just can’t be good to one person. I can’t do it.”

“So, then she says this to me on a phone call, and I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. All right. Okay. Uh, yeah. All right. This, great.’ Hung up the phone, and immediately I was like, ‘No, no, this is this can’t be.’ I think I gave it two days, and I called her back, and I was like, ‘Hey, uh, I think that’s a bad idea. I think we should just be together,’ and she was like, ‘No.’ She like protested. Protested. I was like, ‘No, no, no, no, but I think I’ve decided.’ I’m like, ‘No.’ She’s like, ‘No, you don’t know. You haven’t even been single for long enough to understand.’ She’s like, ‘Go out there, do your thing.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I need you now. You’re the thing that makes it right. You’re the thing.’ It wasn’t just me. I was an ***hole, but it’s also that I just hadn’t found the ****ing partner. I hadn’t found the thing — the buddy, the best friend that took care of all the **** that I needed.”

Seth Rollins is currently out of action and recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered at WWE Crown Jewel Perth. Meanwhile, Becky Lynch will compete in the women’s WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2025 on Saturday, November 29.
