Tommy Dreamer was a big fan of the Darby Allin and Jon Moxley segment that took place on last night’s AEW Dynamite. Last night’s show featured a back and forth vignette-type segment between the two stars ahead of their I Quit match at WrestleDream. Dreamer broke the segment down on Busted Open After Dark and said he appreciated the unique nature of it. He also talked about Allin and Moxley’s individual performances. You can see highlights below:

On the feud thus far:

“We have two characters that are known for violence. We have two characters that are known for very, very good promo work. We have two characters that are very, very known for taking things to the extreme. And these two men are gonna wrestle each other again. They had a casket match and their differences were not settled. So we’re going [to] WrestleDream with an I quit Match. Liked the buildup. I saw the stuff on social media at New York Comic-Con, and they’ve done stuff like this before at New York Comic-Con. Which hell, everybody does. Between that and San Diego Comic-Con, it gets you a large audience, people noticing.”

On the segment overall:

“But I’m just gonna talk about the actual segment. I thought it was fabulous. It was a fabulously shot segment. I thought it was very unique to AEW. When AEW receives a lot of criticism for just being this wrestling company, or not doing angles like this or cinema stuff, it was really, really cool. The shooting of it. I loved the shot from Darby’s perspective. You see Jon Moxley walk in. And when Jon Moxley was talking to Darby, it’s actually through that intercom thing. My favorite part about it was you could also see Darby’s face in the reflection.”

On Moxley’s pefformance:

“It was very much a yin of a yang. Because Jon Moxley is playing the role of the evil guy. He’s the bad guy in all this. He has his own warped sense of reality and he delivered. I watched that and I was like, ‘Man.’ And listen, I’ve always been a fan of Jon Moxie. He’s always been a great promo guy, he really has. From his days on the Indies, that’s where I noticed him. He was cutting promos on me, and I was like, ‘Hmm, this guy is interesting.’ And then we saw what he did in WWE, NXT, the Shield, and now in AEW. But this version or or just this segment really, really clicked. Again, playing the bad, bad guy.”

On Allin’s performance

“On the other side, you have the good guy. Though this good guy doesn’t look like a good guy. He’s a guy who goes out there and risks his body for the sake of something he loves. And that something that he loves is AEW. He goes out there and his promo was very deliberate, and an excellent back and forth. The Jon Moxley side where you’re looking over his shoulder and the camera shot to him. His vision, and you see Darby cutting up promo. Listen, straight up — Darby is AEW, Darby is everything. And he’s gone on record saying like, ‘Hey, I’d be homeless without this company.’ A lot of wrestlers would not have the opportunity to be on national television if it wasn’t for AEW.

“Darby is specifically a guy who found his niche in AEW, and should love and worship everything AEW. He is again, one of those guys who could be a pillar. He could be one of the faces of the company been there from almost the beginning… really has grown and does insane things to his own body for the love of AEW. The guy goes, climbs Mount Everest [and] talks about that. Talks about what he did risking his life to do that, just to plant this flag of AEW to the top of the world. He made a promise, and he delivered on that promise like a great baby face should.”
