WWE: Unreal Season 2 is set to be released tomorrow (January 20), and Netflix has dropped another sneak peek ahead of its premiere. In a short clip shared by the streaming giant on its YouTube channel, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, SmackDown creative head Road Dogg, and R-Truth discussed the controversy surrounding the former 24/7 Champion’s contract situation last summer.
In June 2025, R-Truth dropped a bombshell on social media when he revealed that he was being let go by the promotion after the expiration of his contract. This led to a huge uproar on social media, and Truth eventually returned to the company a week later at WWE Money in the Bank. He attacked John Cena in the closing moments of the show, allowing Cody Rhodes to pin the then-WWE Champion in a tag team match.
In the clip shared by Netflix on YouTube, Triple H stated that the promotion opted to release R-Truth, hoping that he would come around after communication between the two parties had broken down during contract negotiations.
“We got to a point in Truth’s run where his contract was coming up. When you are dealing with contracts and money, and you’re very far apart in the numbers and communication breaks down, it’s very easy for both sides to read into the communications differently. ‘Okay, well, if you’re not going to come to us, then, Truth, we’re going to let your contract lapse. Your contract is at the end. We’re not going to renew.’ Knowing that hopefully, maybe, this will force his hand to say, ‘Well, hold on a second. Can we talk?’ He immediately went out on social media and said he was fired, which he was never fired, contrary to prior belief. He was never not under contract for us,” Triple H said.
R-Truth also commented on the saga in the video, stating that he was “hurt.”
“I got the call that my contract wasn’t going to be renewed, and I’m like, ‘So am I released? Am I…?’ I took it as I was released. I just… I was hurt!” Truth said.
Meanwhile, Brian James (AKA Road Dogg) felt that the decision made “perfect business sense.”
“While it broke my heart, it made perfect business sense to not renew his contract. At his age, you might not get that reward back.”
