Vince and Linda McMahon File Oppositions To Ring Boy Lawsuit Anonymity Request

Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon have filed their oppositions to the request by the plaintiffs in the WWE “ring boy” lawsuit to keep their names anonymous to the public. As previously reported, the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the two McMahons and WWE filed a motion asking to keep using their “John Doe” names in the suit. The plaintiffs argued that while their names are known to all parties in the lawsuit, exposing the names to the public record would expose them to the risk of being re-traumatized when the internet learns their identities.
That request was filed earlier this month, with the plaintiffs stating that WWE and TKO took no position on the anonymity matter, but that the two McMahons opposed the notion. The judge in the case previously allowed the plaintiffs to move forward in anonymity, saying he would revisit the matter after ruling on motions to dismiss.
Brandon Thurston reports for POST Wrestling that Vince and Linda both filed motions opposing the request. The two oppositions were filed on January 26th and argued that anonymity would unfairly damage their ability to mount a defense against the allegations against them in the discovery process.
The plaintiffs filed the lawsuit against WWE, Vince McMahon, and Linda McMahon in October 2024. The lawsuit alleged that Mel Phillips and Terry Garvin sexually abused them during their time working for the company in the the 1980s and 1990s, and that Vince and Linda McMahon were aware of the abuse but did nothing to stop it.
The attorneys for both McMahons brought up an idea of limited confidentiality orders that the judge could consider. The plaintiffs have until February 6th to respond to the opposition filings.
