The 10th Day News Report for 11.21.07

November 21, 2007 | Posted by Leonard Hayhurst

MAILBAG
I don’t watch ECW a whole lot, and since Punk missed the Reality Check at the PPV, I was just wondering, what is the Reality Check?
-Chris

The Reality Check is Miz’s finisher. It’s a knee lift to the side of the head to a kneeling opponent that sets up a neckbreaker slam. His other finisher is the Mizard of Oz, which is a wristlock swinging reverse DDT. Since he’s a chick magnet, maybe he should call himself the Mizard of Ahhs.

NEWS AND NOTES

-In your online Heat report Valdimir Koslow jobbed out Norman Smiley. What was he doing there? London and Kendrick beat the Highlanders in a battle of the depushed. Jim Duggan beat Mai Tai Anoai (is that Rosey?). Cade and Murdoch defeated the World’s Greatest Tag Team in what I’m sure was a crowd favorite. In the dark main event DX whipped up on Kennedy and Umaga. Credit: PWInsider.com

-The torchbearer on RAW was 18 year old high school student Jon Palmer. He is in training to be a wrestler. It would be so awesome if he sprang up like eight years from now to get revenge on Jericho as a Black Scorpion type character. Chris Jericho and WWE were said to be very happy about the way his segment came off. Credit: PWInsider.com

-WWE did photo and video shoots over the weekend in Naples, Florida with several WWE superstars. It is thought this was for the Royal Rumble. It is known that some of the footage shot was in HD and might serve as special opening segments for future HD programming. WWE has been looking into format for some time. Credit: PWInsider.com

-RAW Monday scored a 3.5 rating. Smackdown Thursday nabbed a 2.7. Credit: PWInsider.com

-The dark main event for Smackdown on November 27th is being advertised as Batista and Rey Mysterio vs. Great Khali and Finlay. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Ric Flair is officially endorsing Michael Huckabee for President. He will be making an appearance with the candidate this Saturday at the football game between South Carolina and Clemson. I officially support Elizabeth Kucinich. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Kristal Marshall on her official website has posted a statement revealing that she was released from WWE for not wanting to take part in a “morally degrading” storyline. She did not go into detail, but compared it to Lita being a “slutty vamp” and felt that she went out on a bad note and she did not want to go down that similar path. She also thanked Finlay, Booker T and Sharmell for their support and training of her. Credit: kristal-marshall.net

-WWE released a press statement Monday on the 15th anniversary episode of RAW for December 10th. It said little, but looked flashy like most recent episodes of the program. Credit: WWE press release

-Wrestlemania 23 reportedly pulled in 29.7 million to the Detroit area. Or what Dennis Rodman used to drop nightly in strip clubs when he played for the Pistons. The event also supported the equivalent of 334 full year jobs. That’s a lot of bootleg Rey Mysterio shirts. An additional $4.7 million was generated in taxes for the government. Oh yeah, let’s celebrate that. Cheer up my friends in Orlando. Economic salvation is on its way. Credit: WWE press release

-A full cast list for NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” has been released and John Cena’s name did not appear on it. It was originally circulated that he was part of the program. No word at this time on what the deal is. Tito Ortiz of the UFC is still listed. Credit: TVGuide.com

-WWE has officially announced the expansion of Florida Championship Wrestling as a developmental territory with a full training facility and televisions studio, much like what OVW has. The new construction should be finished by the end of the month. Steve Keirn will run the territory with Tom Prichard overseeing the training. The new facility will house a 300 seat arena to host weekly TV tapings. Credit: WWE press release

-Nick Hogan has had his license suspended for two years. One year for an unpaid ticket and the other for drinking and driving under the age of 21. To compound matters, TMZ.com has a video up of Linda Hogan in 2005 extolling the virtues of illegal racing. She now denies these comments, despite video evidence otherwise. Hogan knows crap. Credit: TMZ.com, PWInsider.com

-The match between Austin Aries and Roderick Strong on November 30th at the Manhattan Center for Ring of Honor will be a 30 minute iron man match. In a comedy EWR fed I once booked a 6 minute iron man match. Credit: ROHWrestling.com

-Dr. Phil Astin has made a motion to be allowed to leave his house during work hours. He claims that he needs to work in order to make ends meet. I’m sure his lawyers will agree with that so they can get paid. It is not said what Astin would be doing as he has turned over his medical license to the courts. There are a lot of places I could go here, but it’s a grave matter still and I’ll try to stay clean. Credit: AP Reports

-Sylvan Grenier has replaced Pierre Oulette as the French commentator for TNA Impact in Canada. That’s really like trading in Joe Theisman for Ron Jaworski. Take that how you will, but I wouldn’t take it good. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Several TNA stars will take part in the Tokyo Dome event for New Japan this January. Abyss will battle Manabu Nakanishi, The Steiners will battle Tomko and Bernard for the IWGP Tag Titles and Yugi Nagata will challenge Kurt Angle for the IWGP 3rd Generation Title, which Angle holds but is not recognized in Japan. On November 11th Ron Killings was supposed to work a date for the company, but missed his flight. They were reportedly very upset and Jeff Jarrett had to smooth matters over with them. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Christy Hemme takes after Lita by starting her own band. Their first album is due in January and their first live performance will be January 5th at the Pomona Fairgrounds. A MySpace page for the band is in the works. Someone must fill the void of Fozzy. Credit: PWInsider.com

-TNA Knockouts Talia Madison and Angel Williams will be changing their names this week on Impact. This is so TNA can own the rights to their names and they can retain the rights to their other names for Indy appearances and such. Madison will be Velvet Sky and Williams will be Angelina Love. Apparently Kevin Nash left his porn star naming guide lying around backstage. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Sabu was not backstage at the Impact taping last week as some reported. Rebecca Bayless of Ring of Honor was. Maybe people got them mixed up? Nah. Credit: PWInsider.com

EWR ON 411

-A Thanksgiving fest is set up by the entranceway. You know that won’t survive the night.

-CM Punk vs. Kenny Dykstra. Let’s have the champion be the curtain jerker. Brilliant idea. Let’s put him up against Chuck Palumbo’s personal bitch who hasn’t won a match since the Nixon administration. Double brilliant. Kenndy surprisingly gets a lot offense early and Punk actually makes him look like a threat. Kenny goes up top, but is kicked by Punk so he crotches himself. Punk carries him off the turnbuckles and nails the G2S for the win.

-Elijah Burke is already in the middle of a promo as we come back from commercial. Burke has convinced Shelton Benjamin to join ECW. Better to be a big fish in a little pond, than a little fish in a big pond. Those who wish to book Charlie Haas for indy appearances should start lining up now. If Burke and Benjamin become a tag team I will dub them Chocolate Reign.

-Tommy Dreamer vs. Shelton Benjamin. What, did they give Nunzio the night off? Styles says that Tazz has often called Burke the Knute Rockne of ECW. I don’t remember that, but would that make Benjamin the Gipper. Shelly wins with a swinging DDT.

-Deuce ‘n Domino vs. Jesse and Festus. Miz and John Morrison sit in on commentary. I think we all can tell where this is heading and I’m not totally against it. Miz on Festus, “he plows through people with a comb over.” They do much better on commentary this week as they actually focus on the match and sound like they popped a couple zanacs before coming out. They do admire Cherry’s cherry bottom. Morrison comes up with the idea that we all did to just ring a bell before the end of the match to neutralize Festus. Festus and Jesse win. THEY DON’T SERVE BISCUITS AND GRAVY AT THE PALACE OF WISDOM!

-Matt Striker cuts a promo with Big Daddy V to hype the main event. Nothing you haven’t already heard

-Kevin Thorn vs. Nunzio. It’s the ninth level of jobber hell. At least I have my Nunzio question answered. Thorn has his hair cut like Doug E. Fresh and is wearing a singlet out of Kevin Sullivan’s closet. Being a vampire is much better than just being some dude.

-We get exclusive footage from after the show last week of Kelly Kelly and Layla getting into a fight at the craft’s service table. I eat at the Y myself.

-Seether is in the audience. Styles calls them JR’s favorite band. I always thought that was funny when he said that to hype them. Layla comes out to give thanks. She says Thanksgiving is next Thursday. It’s this Thursday you dumb slunt. Kelly comes out and dumps a pie on her. Oh yeah, food fight. I still miss the gravy bowl match. Tazz is pissed that there aren’t any yams on the table. THEY DON’T SERVE YAMS AT THE PALACE OF WISDOM! The girls will wrestle again next week.

-Big Dadddy V and Matt Striker vs. Kane. Striker basically acts as interference so V can jump Kane. A funny bit sees Striker getting in Kane’s face while he’s on the mat under V and Kane is still able to choke him. V levels Kane and allows Striker to pin him, but he kicks out. Kane comes back. He hits the flying clothesline for two on V. V breaks up a pin on Striker after a side slam. Kane boots down V and choke slams Striker for the win. V gets revenge post match. Is this going anywhere?
