WWC Euphoria Results 01.16.10

January 18, 2010 | Posted by Armando Rodriguez

World Wrestling Council Presents: Euphoria 2010 from the Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, PR

– Attendance: Around 4,000 fans!

– This show marks the debut of former IWA superstar Ricky Banderas in WWC. Banderas is also a former TNA wrestler (Judas Mesias) and is a 3-time AAA Megacampeon (Megachampion) in Mexico. The main event pits the 3 biggest names in all of Puerto Rican wrestling over the past 10 years to crown the “Wrestler of the Decade” in Puerto Rico. If we add the jumps of Bryan, Chicano, Lynx, Niche and Cuervo from IWA to WWC, many people consider this year to be WWC’s biggest chance of putting IWA out of business. IWA then filed a grievance preventing the WWC from using the name “Ricky Banderas” since they have a trademark, so they are calling him “The Megachampion” Ricky.

– Excellent setup for the event. It looks a lot like WWE’s setup when they run house shows in the Coliseum. Having WWE Spanish Announcer Hugo Savinovich as executive producer is really working out for WWC.

Loser Leaves WWC For 90 Days:
“The Sensational” Carlitos defeats “The King of the World” Hiram Tua by pinfall in what many people consider to be the match of the night. Tua now has to leave WWC for 90 days. Good luck to Tua who is leaving WWC for a while to try his hand in the US independents. He has a lot of talent!

Special Challenge:
King Tonga Jr defeats Abbad by pinfall. Tonga has a menacing look, but they had ZERO chemistry and the match was slow and boring. The good news is that Tonga is staying for a while and with some good booking he can be a top heel.

Revenge Match:
“Superstar” Idol Stevens defeats Shawn Spears with help from Jose Chaparro. Another slow and boring match, crowd was dead. I think the wrong man won, because Spears was really starting to get over as a babyface. Idol is a heat machine, but man, I think WWC dropped the ball here.

– Bronco #1 comes out and insults the fans, drawing a ton of heat and guaranteeing that he will be the heel in the next match.

Special Challenge:
Black Pain/with Chicky Starr defeats Bronco #1. Nice to see Pain back, but too bad WWE cut him. He has a great look and works nice big man matches. The Sweet Papi Sanchez gimmick was horrible, they should have kept him as Black Pain. Anyway, match was a bit boring as Pain was the babyface and I think he is better suited to a monster heel role. Bronco pretty much dominated the match until Pain made his comeback and won.

WWC Universal Title
“The Phenomenal” BJ defeats “The Rebel” Noriega by pinfall to become the Universal Champion for the second time! Noriega is a heat machine and BJ is really over, so the fans where very into the match. BJ wins with the Phenomenal Cutter.

WWC Tag Team Titles:
“The Illegal Menace” Bryan & Chicano defeat Thunder & Lightning to become the new WWC Tag Team Champions. Very good match and the crowd were into it, although Chicano was a bit out of shape. Former IWA Extreme Division Champion Cuervo runs in to help the heels win. Cuervo, Niche, Lynx and Chicano jumped from IWA during the holidays.

Colon vs Colon II:
Orlando “La Pesadilla” Colon defeats Eddie “Primo” Colon by pinfall after the sidekick. Tons of false finishes in what was the second best match of the night. Primo is so misused by the WWE, it is sad really.

Wrestler of the Decade Cup:
“Mr. Ratings” Rey Gonzales defeats Carlito Caribbean Cool and Ricky Banderas by pinfall. Confusing finish to set up a potential rematch down the road as Banderas has Carlito covered, but Rey Gonzales jumps on top of them and pins the both to win. Banderas and Carlito then have an argument and come to blows, essentially setting the stage for a one on one match. Outside of the confusing finish, this was a spectacular match. Rey Gonzales, even a bit older and out of shape, still showed why he is Puerto Rico’s best overall wrestler, being the glue that kept the match together.

Overall an excellent show and I can’t wait to see what WWC plans to do for the Anniversary Show in the summer, because it is going to be hard to top this!
