Gunther is aiming to “disrupt” Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes’ comfort zone at Clash in Italy. The Ring General will challenge The American Nightmare for the prestigious title at WWE’s first-ever premium live event in Italy on Sunday, May 31.
Earlier today, Gunther appeared on ESPN Get Up to promote the match. When the host asked why he opted to go after Cody, the Austrian said, “It’s time to get even” with WWE’s “golden boy” and disrupt his comfort zone. Gunther also doubled down on his claim that Cody Rhodes will face a hostile reception from the European audience, calling Italy his “home turf.” Here’s what Gunther said:
On Targeting Cody Rhodes
“Well, Cody is obviously the golden boy of WWE, and he seems very comfortable in that position, and I have done so much in such a short time since I’m in WWE, and I think it’s time to get even with Cody, and I’d like to disrupt his comfort.”
On His Previous Loss Cody Rhodes and Italy Being His Home Turf
“That’s exactly what it’s about with Cody [on Cody reminding everyone about his victory over him at Crown Jewel 2024 during a recent ESPN appearance.] Attention seeker. He really thrives on that. Even in my allocated time as a guest on that show, he finds a way to pass on a message. He can say whatever he wants. I know when that bell rings, I’m a better wrestler than Cody is. And we’re in Italy; that’s almost home turf for me. That’s Europe. I grew up in Austria, which is very close, and it’s going to be a different atmosphere. He’s not going to be used to that, and I’m very positive going into this one.”
Cody shrugged off Gunther’s claim about their upcoming match being an “away game” for him during an appearance on ESPN. You can check his comment HERE.
