Backstage Update on Enzo Amore & Big Cass’ WWE Return Status
There has been a lot of chatter in the wrestling circles about the potential return of Enzo Amore and Big Cass (AEW’s Big Bill) to WWE over the past few days. It all started when WrestleVotes on Fightful Select reported earlier this month that WWE is interested in bringing back the former duo.
Later, it emerged that Enzo was at the WWE Performance Center during a recent NXT taping. Fightful Select subsequently reported that Amore, who works as Real1 on the independent circuit, has stopped taking future bookings. Fightful also cited sources as claiming that Big Bill’s contract with All Elite Wrestling is set to expire either at the end of this month or in early June.
In this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WOR), Dave Meltzer provided more updates on the evolving situation. According to Meltzer, Enzo Amore is expected to start in NXT soon. However, as of today, nothing is official about Big Bill. While he acknowledged the chatter around the AEW star, Meltzer noted that he isn’t being heavily talked about within WWE.
Big Bill hasn’t competed since the April 6, 2026, episode of ROH, and his last appearance on AEW TV came at a Collision taping in early February. Meltzer acknowledged that an extended absence of a talent from television during their contract year would rightly lead many to believe that they are leaving the promotion. However, the wrestling insider then cited the examples of Chris Jericho and Powerhouse Hobbs to argue that that may not be the case every time.
Jericho was off AEW TV for an extended period of time last year, leading many to believe that he was WWE-bound after his deal expired. However, that didn’t happen, as he returned to television in April. Meanwhile, Powerhouse Hobbs was regularly featured on TV and was the holder of the AEW World Trios Championship when he opted against signing a new deal and made his way to WWE.
Enzo Amore and Big Cass were hugely successful as a duo during their previous stint with WWE. Amore’s stint ended in controversial fashion in 2018 when he was fired due to sexual assault allegations. Big Cass’ seven-year stint also ended that year, as he was released from his contract in June 2018.
