Undisputed Title Match Official For WWE SummerSlam

CM Punk will officially defend the WWE Undisputed Championship against Cody Rhodes at WWE SummerSlam, as confirmed on this week’s episode of Smackdown. It was announced in the opening segment of Friday’s show that Punk will put his newly won championship on the line against the former champion in Rhodes.

The segment started with Punk coming to the ring to talk about winning the title. He noted that he is now part of the Smackdown roster and that he caught an opportunity when it came his way on Raw, when he defeated Sami Zayn for the title after Rhodes was attacked by Gunther.

Punk spoke about being the same champion on Smackdown that he was on Raw and said he would defend the title against anyone. He mentioned rematches for Sami Zayn and Gunther before mentioning others like Finn Balor, Royce Keys, Damian Priest, and Trick Williams.

That led to Rhodes coming out to the ring. He noted that their last interaction at the Raw after WrestleMania was a mirror to this one and implied that a match between them has been building for years. Punk said he figured it would be a WrestleMania main event but knew they couldn’t avoid each other anymore. Rhodes said he wanted his shot at SummerSlam, the two shook hands and Nick Aldis sanctioned the match.
