It was reported back in September that Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez was set to produce the latest reboot in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series. At the time, all that was known was that it would be a direct sequel to the 1974 film, much like Texas Chainsaw 3D was when that reboot hit in 2013. Now, The Illuminerdi has more details about the film’s plot.

The film was originally supposed to begin shooting this past week, but the Coronavirus pandemic put a halt to that. It will be directed by Andy and Ryan Tohill (The Dig) from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin. Other producesr include Pat Cassidy, Rodo Sayagues, Ian and Kim Henkel.

The latest casting call suggested a new backstory for Leatherface, who has various different names depending on the continuity. In this film, his real name would be ‘Kenny’. Similar to the version of Michael Myers in Halloween, this Leatherface was meant to be older, specifically sixty. He is described as having a “big build,” “not a bodybuilder” and “may even be slightly obese.” He also wears church clothes that may be too tight. It’s a non-speaking role but he does make various noises like grunts, a ‘howling belly laugh’ and a pig squeal. He hides his face to avoid having his picture taken and watches TV a lot.

A new character created for this version is Mrs. Mc, who controls the new Leatherface. She is 70-80 years old and is a “warm, honest lady who has fostered abandoned children for decades.” All ethnicities were begin considered. The character is said to have a positive outlook but in the story is facing eviction from her rural Texas home.

The film, meanwhile, would follow sisters Melody and Dreama. The 25-year-old businesswoman Melody drags her younger sister, a photographer, to Texas for a business trip. Dreama is also said to be disabled and in a wheelchair.

It’s unknown when this version of the story will hit theaters, as filming has not started at this time.
