WWE Smackdown for July 10, 2003. Taped from Toronto, Canada
Report by Brad Jennette, EXCLUSIVELY for www.411wrestling.com

The video rolls, the pyro hits and we are TAPED FROM TORONTO … it’s WWE Smackdown for July 10, 2003.

We open the show with everyone’s favorite red, white, and blue badass Kurt Angle coming out to a massive face pop. He is ready for the triple threat match against Big Show and Brock. Before he can go on its WORD LIFE as my white rapper hero John Cena comes out. Cena says steel chains are in and gold medals are out. Crowd is just EATING UP Cena’s rap. Angle gets Hebner over to do the beat and he cuts his own rap. Cena looks depressed so Angle give him Huganomics! Big Show’s music hits and it distracts Angle long enough for Cena to hit the FU. Big Show waddles to the ring and he chokeslams Angle for good measure.

Kidman & Rey Mysterio vs FBI vs APA vs Basham Brothers
This winners of this match gets a tag title shot at the World Greatest Tag Team at Vengeance. Big brawl to start us off and eventually the APA and the FBI (too many initials!) brawl to the back. So basically its the Bashams vs the Filthy Animals 2003 for all shot. The tag portion of this match was actually pretty good with Rey hitting the 619 and Drop the Dime on Doug for the title shot.
Winners: Rey and Kidman

Backstage, Angle is getting his neck iced when Brock walks in the room. Angle wants to know why Brock didn’t save him. They realize they will be facing each other at Vengeance.

They replay the Steph/Gowen vs Big Show match from last week. The entire thing actually.

Steph comes out, followed by Zack. Zack talks about how he is thrilled and then signs his contract. Vince comes out and says it will be Vince vs Zack at Vengeance. Vince also makes the main event, Brock vs Show/Benjamin and Haas. Sable then clocks Steph with Zack’s contract and knocks her flat.

Backstage, Vince and Sable swap spit but Stephanie charges in and attacks Sable. Vince makes a match between Stephanie and Sable at Vengeance.

Matt Hardy & Shannon Moore vs Chris Benoit & Rhyno
They finally show the US title tourney brackets. Matt will face Benoit next week and Billy Gunn will take on the winner of the Ultimo Dragon and Eddie Guererro match that will happen later tonight. This was another pretty good match with Rhyno playing Ricky Morton and Benoit looking SWANK in the ring. He was in good form tonight. The finish saw Benoit playing opossum and locking in the crossface on an unsuspecting Moore for the tap out win. I guess being back in his county lit the fire for Benoit tonight.
Winner: Benoit and Rhyno

Backstage, Brock is preparing for his main event match and messing around with Angle at the same time. Creepy.

Eddie Guerrero vs Ultimo Dragon
This was looking like it was going to be a really good match but it didn’t even last 4 minutes. It SO needed 10 more minutes of action. Eddie cut a “heel” promo pre-match talking about his anger problem but he got massive face pops for it. Finish saw Ultimo hit a moonsault but only have Eddie roll through and grab the tights for the cheap win.
Winner: Eddie Guererro

Backstage, Billy blows up after a minute of making out with Torrie.

Billy Gunn & Torrie Wilson vs Jamie Noble & Nidia
Ya know, I like Noble and its a shame to have him bumping like a pinball for BG. Luckily this was kept short and Torrie won with the DDT on Nidia after 2 minutes or so. Noble gets on the mic after the match and offers Torrie 10 grand to sleep him him. Mr. Ass beats Noble up for it. Torrie DDTs Noble after the match for good measure.
Winners: Billy Gunn and Torrie Wilson

Backstage, Angle is summoned to Vince’s office before the main event.

Falls Count Anywhere: Big Show & The World’s Greatest Tag Team vs Brock Lesnar This was a really nice brawl that saw Lesnar get the crap kicked out of him for a long while. I really dig this Show-Lesnar feud and adding in the real wrestlers like Angle and Haas/Benjamin makes it that much better. Haas ate an F5 in the ring and Brock set up the ring steps near the announce table. Benjamin was THIS close to getting F5ed on the table but Brock broke it up with a boot. Brock fought back and set up Show for the ring step F5. Show then reversed it to the chokeslam through the table for the pin! Angle is nowhere to be found!
Winners: Show/Haas/Benjamin

End of Show.
