Both WWE and AEW have been grappling with several injury issues to their talents. This week, AEW’s Penelope Ford and The Vision member Bronson Reed were the latest names added to the growing injury lists.
In general, AEW seems to be struggling more with injuries to its wrestlers, with Dave Meltzer noting in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the injury rate for the Tony Khan-led company is significantly higher than that of WWE. According to Meltzer, AEW currently has 14.7% of its roster members sidelined with injuries. The corresponding number for WWE is 8.2%, including Bronson Reed’s injury.
Reed suffered a distal bicep tear while competing in the Elimination Chamber Qualifying Triple Threat Match against Jey Uso and OG El Grande Americano. He was reportedly the planned winner of the match. Reed joins Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins on the sidelines. While Breakker is recovering from a serious hernia issue, Rollins is currently away due to a shoulder injury he suffered at Crown Jewel: Perth last October.
Meanwhile, Penelope Ford suffered an ankle injury while performing a spot during the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship match against The Babes of Wrath.
As of today, the AEW wrestlers who are currently sidelined are Adam Cole (concussion-related health issue), Anthony Henry (torn bicep), Bobby Lashley (shoulder injury), Brian Cage (knee issues), Buddy Matthews (torn ligaments), Colten Gunn (undisclosed injury), Dralistico (undisclosed injury), Dustin Rhodes (out due to knee-replacement surgeries), Hologram (knee injury), Jake Doyle (torn bicep), Jay White (shoulder injury), Kota Ibushi (fractured femur), Leila Grey (torn ACL), Luchasaurus (shoulder), Queen Aminata (neck injury), Penelope Ford (ankle), Rebel (primary pulmonary lymphoma), RUSH (knee injury), Wardlow (torn pectoral muscle), and Will Ospreay (neck injury).
