CM Punk Reflects On His Comic Book-Inspired Looks At SummerSlam 2013 & 2025

CM Punk wore comic book-inspired looks at SummerSlams 12 years part, and he recently reflected on the Wolverine and Fantastic Four-inspired gear. Punk wore a yellow and blue Wolverine-inspired look for his match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2013. Then at SummerSlam 2025, he wore Fantastic Four colors for his match with Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Punk explained the looks in the latest episode of WWE Break It Down. You can check out the full highlights below:

On the Comic Book Inspiration:

“So again we’re back at the Staples Center. SummerSlam 2013, a big one in my career. When I talk about my favorite matches, this is definitely one of ’em. Just Hulk vs. Wolverine, right? I’m Wolverine, Brock is Hulk, a very, very classic [and] simple story to tell. Scrappy, smaller, determined competitor fighting the immovable object.”

On the Match:

“I like to think that that’s — if not mine, it’s one of Brock’s best matches, you know? There’s just chemistry. I do remember, I think there was a post-show that Shawn Michaels was on. And he was just — I think he just kinda stepped outside of the HBK character for a second, and he was just like, ‘CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, thank you.’ Because that just was the essence of pro wrestling.

“A total roller coaster, a physical and emotional show that was gripping to watch. And if you can move Shawn Michaels in that way, you know you did your job.”

On His Fantastic Four Gear at SummerSlam:

“Here, looks like we have SummerSlam wearing the amazing Fantastic Four inspired gear with the sharp jacket. If you zoom in on this picture, you can see on my left breast there is a Sick of It All pin. Sick of It All being a New York hardcore band that wrote the song, ‘Its Clobberin’ Time.’ Famously, the Thing from the Fantastic Four screams, ‘It’s clobberin’ time.’ That’s why I yell ‘It’s clobberin’ time’ before I engage in any kind of physical activity

“Moving forward, but reaching back to bring the history and the inspiration with me. Like these are — this is a band and comic books that shaped my seminal years. And I always like to pay homage to the ones that came before.”
