John Cena’s in-ring career is coming to an end, with the 17-time World Champion set to wrestle his penultimate match at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames this weekend. He will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio in San Diego, California, on November 29.

Ahead of his penultimate match, Drew McIntyre paid a glowing tribute to The Greatest of All Time during a recent appearance on ESPN’s Get Up. The Scottish Warrior detailed how Cena stepped up to the table when WWE and the world of pro wrestling desperately needed a top star following the retirement of Stone Cold Steve Austin and the departure of The Rock.

McIntyre admitted that he is sad for not being one of Cena’s final opponents but is grateful to have shared the locker room with the current IC Champion for so many years and learned the craft from someone who he thinks may just be the GOAT.

“I mean, he’s meant everything to our industry. When The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin left, and top superstars like Triple H and Shawn Michaels were at the end of their careers, the company and the world needed somebody to step up into that top position. John stepped up in a massive way for multiple generations, and it’s insane to say that he’s about to have his last couple of matches. I’m sad that I didn’t get one of them, but I’m glad I’m part of the roster, I’m glad I got to travel the world, and I’m glad I got to learn from John Cena because he is a legend, and he may just be the goat,” Drew McIntyre said.
