The investigation into WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan’s passing has been closed, with police finding no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. WFLA in Florida reports that officials in Clearwater, Florida have closed the case. A statement issued by a spokesperson for the Clearwater Police Department said that Hogan’s passing was “an attended natural death.”
The wrestling icon passed away in July of last year as a result or a heart attack. Hogan had undergone a number of surgeries in the last years of his life, and police opened an investigation into potential medical malpractice in August of last year.
Rob Shaw, a spokesperson of the Clearwater PD, said in the statement:
“We want to thank the family of Mr. Bollea — Sky, Nick and Brooke — and their attorney, Kevin Hayslett, for their cooperation. Their willingness to allow our investigators access to very personal information, at a time when they were grieving and struggling, was extremely helpful. We would not have had the legal justification to obtain much of the information without their cooperation.”
The report on the investigation noted that Hogan told several people close to him that he was in bad shape after his surgeries. It notes that his wife Sky Daily, and two healthcare workers were present when they noticed he had stopped breathing sitting in a recliner. Daily called 911 as his medical staff performed CPR. He was taken to Morton Plant Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:17 p.m.
The report noted:
“Under the circumstances, it fell to the Clearwater Police Department to address, challenge or validate some of the concerns in the case. Investigators had to interview multiple witnesses and review various recordings to answer questions central to our inquiry…
“Following an exhaustive review of the statements, medical records, surveillance footage from within the residence, and a visual inspection of Mr. Bollea’s body. There has been no evidence to indicate the death of Terry Bollea was anything other than natural. Through the course of the investigation, there has been no evidence to indicate any criminal wrongdoing related to his death.”
