Kris Statlander On Mercedes Mone’s AEW WrestleDream Challenge, Floats Marina Shafir As Possible Challenger

Kris Statlander faces a new challenger coming out of AEW WrestleDream in Mercedes Mone, and she spoke about that impending match after the PPV. Statlander defeated Toni Storm to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear. Later in the show, Mone challenged Statlander and the latter spoke about the challenge and more in the post-show media scrum. You can see some highlights below:
On Possibly Main Eventing Full Gear Against Mone:
“Well, first of all, thank you for reminding me of losing twice to her already. That’s a really kind thing of you to do. Secondly, I think depending on what the circumstances are leading up to Full Gear, there could be some more insane stipulations. And would I love to be the main event? Absolutely. But sometimes there are other things that are a little bit more played out, and they have a little bit more deserving of a moment than you. And sometimes it’s okay to take that step back and just be like, ‘I’m going to do the best that I can in the spot that I am.’
“So, would I love that? Absolutely. Is it okay if it’s not? Absolutely. I’m still getting a moment to prove to her that not only am I better than her — because she has never laid hands on this, I have now. That this is my moment to beat her. And I’ll do it at the beginning of the show, the end of the show, in the middle of the show. I’ll do it any day of the week. So, it’s not about when it is on the card. It’s about how you do it.”
On Who Else She’d Like To Defend the Title Against
“I feel like it could be anybody at this point. But I think someone who probably thinks they deserve, and a lot of people in relation to her that want to see her kind of take me out is probably Marina. I feel like possibly Death Riders might have a little bit of a — you know, they might be not so keen on me right now. And if they need me to put her in her place, [I] will.
“And also, if Wheeler Yuta wants to step up and challenge for this, I will put him in his place right the same. So, whoever is brave enough. I’m open to any and all challenges. And I’m open to giving anyone a shot who is worthy. And I think if you are here and you are putting your best foot forward, you are worthy. So, whoever wants to step up.”
