Magnus Books The Midwest 1.04.08: TV Week 8 and Major Event Announcements

January 4, 2008 | Posted by Magnus Donaldson

Hello, and welcome to Week 8 of Magnus Books The Midwest. Two weeks ago, we saw the fallout from The Final Four, as we saw some major developments that will continue this week.
Both the Anarchistic Punishers and The Back and The Brave were in tag team action, and this week they will collide. While Tyler Black’s team were victorious over Cheech and Cloudy, interference by The Black and The Brave cost Arik Cannon’s team an important match with El Generico and Kevin Steen.
Larry Sweeney and Azrieal were supposed to be having a heated grudge match where the loser would leave Pro Wrestling Midwest forever. However, the two pulled a setup where they both got counted out, and thus neither would be fired. It appears they are now a team aiming for the tag titles.
An in other action, Low-Ki made his first successful title defense, retaining the belt against Hallowicked in an open challenge. Shiima Xion was also in action, but before the match could start Takeshi Morishima wiped him out

This week’s show could very well be called a supershow in itself, with what could be the most loaded episode of Pro Wrestling Midwest TV ever. Here is the lineup:

Main Event, Tag Team Rematch- The Anarchistic Punishers vs The Black and The Brave
Open Stipulation Title Match- Low-Ki vs Gran Akuma
Number One Contenders Match- Kevin Steen vs Delirious vs Mike Quackenbush vs Chuck Taylor
Grudge Tag Team Match- Claudio Castagnoli and Josh Abercrombie vs Jigsaw and Eddie Kingston
Chris Hero vs Hallowicked
Matt Sydal vs Ricochet
Plus Sterling James Keenan’s ‘monster’ and El Generico will be in action

Now let’s move on to some pre-show news-

Second Match for Major Event: Hell’s Fury: Signed
We have a massive grudge match to announce for our next major event in three weeks time. It will be a rematch from the first show as Shiima Xion battles Takeshi Morishima. Both men asked for this match: Shiima Xion wanted it to prove his point to Takeshi Morishima, while Morishima wanted it to simply get his hands on the man who screwed him out of the Open Stipulation belt.

Watch out for more massive matches that will be signed in the coming weeks, including a few at the end of this week’s show.

Tag Team Title Match Finalised
Ian Rotten has now confirmed what we all though. Although it was against his will, he has decided to sign Larry Sweeney and Azrieal, The Sweet and Sour Coalition, to be the fourth team in the match. He hopes that they are giving the beating of their life by the three opposing team: Canadian Violence, Incoherence and Jigsaw and Gran Akuma. Who will be walking out next week as Tag Team Champions?

Now let’s head right for the action on this week’s show-

Match 1
Sterling James Keenan’s ‘Monster’ w/Sterling James Keenan vs Tim Donst

Donst was pretty much cannon fodder for the ‘Monster’ here, as he had no offense at all before getting pinned in less than a minute after the Massive Chokeslam- n/r

The Monster continues to beatdown Tim Donst, with Sterling James Keenan standing over him cackling away. Mike Quackenbush and the Chikara students make the save and run off The Monster and Sterling James Keenan. Keenan shouts at Quack to stay out of his business or he will pay.

Just then, The Kings Of Wrestling run out and attack the Chikara students, with Chris Hero going after Eddie Kingston. Gran Akuma and Mike Quackenbush help Kingston, and eventually Hero and Quackenbush brawl all the way to the back. Meanwhile in the ring, it appears our next grudge match has started early.

Match 2
Jigsaw and Eddie Kingston w/Gran Akuma vs The Kings Of Wrestling (Claudio Castagnoli and Josh Abercrombie)

A good, short tag team match that I wish had gone a little longer. A sprint from start to finish, with no real slowdown in the action. Kingston and Castagnoli had some hard hitting exchanges, with a battle of European Uppercut vs Forearm, and Kingston won as he ploughed through his two opponents. Jigsaw looked to finish it, and had Castagnoli ready to go for the Jig N’Tonic, but Gran Akuma leapt up on the apron offering to help Jigsaw with a double team. The two argued, distracting Jigsaw long enough to allow Castagnoli to recover, and hit the Ricola Bob for three- **3/4

Gran Akuma and Jigsaw argued once again after the match, with Akuma berating Jigsaw for dropping the ball again, and Jigsaw blaming Akuma for distracting him. Kingston stopped them coming to blows, with Akuma clearly saying that if they did not win next week, they were finished as a team.

Match 3
El Generico vs Jason Hades

Not that much of a match, with Generico dominating much of it barring a few moves from Hades. However, Hades came within a second of victory as he managed to hit his amazing Killswitch finisher, that brought crowd to it’s feet, but Generico kicked out at the very last second. Generico then came back with a Bog Boot in the corner, a Half Nelson Suplex and another Big Boot for three. An extended squash, but extremely fun- **1/4

We head back to the locker room for a promo with Shiima Xion. However, before the promo could be conducted, Takeshi Morishima runs in, tries to grab Shiima Xion who runs out of the locker room, into the parking lot and into his car, before driving out of the arena. In a rage, Takeshi Morishima attacks our cameraman, giving him a Backdrop Driver, then has to be restrained by security who escort him from the arena. We will have no more promo’s tonight as we do not have a backup cameraman.

Match 4
Chris Hero vs Hallowicked

A fun little match, and quite competitive as Hallowicked managed to get in a good deal of offense against one of the people who was responsible for training him. Hero also looked very impressive here, using all of his signature submissions and moves, and getting the crowd on his case with his usual heelish antics. Hallowicked tried his best to get three, but this was not his night as Hero pinned him with the Hero’s Welcome- **1/2

Match 5
Matt Sydal vs Ricochet

A great match here, topping my expectations. Sydal was not at all popular with the crowd following the revelation that he paid off Sterling James Keenan, and his every move was booed by the crowd while every move by Ricochet was cheered. It made for an interesting atmosphere that helped the match. However, there was not to be a clean winner here, as Sterling James Keenan and his ‘monster’ ran in and attacked Ricochet, leading to a DQ- ***

The Monster picks up Ricochet by the throat, throws him up, then catches him for the Sitout Tombstone. Sydal recovers and thinks that Sterling James Keenan is on his side, and he applauds. Keenan notices, gives the thumb down, then The Monster runs through him with a Lariat. The Monster goes up top. SUPERFLY SPLASH. Sydal is officially dead and Sterling James Keenan is laughing manically. Chuck Taylor runs out to try and get a piece of the action, but Keenan and The Monster leave. Taylor throws both men out of the ring, and officials come out to force them back to the locker room since Taylor is now demanding that the Four Way Contenders match begins now.

However, there was one thing that the officials did not notice: that Sterling James Keenan and The Monster had not left: they had taken a seat in the crowd. I think we surely know their intentions.

Match 6
Number One Contenders Four Way- Chuck Taylor vs Kevin Steen vs Delirious vs Mike Quackenbush
A good match, which I kind of wish had been under elimination rules as it could have made for a more interesting spectacle. Quackenbush went for high flying moves, Steen went for power, Delirious wrestled with his usual crazy antics and Taylor used every cheap trick in the book to get ahead. The clash of styles the four had as a result made for an interesting spectacle. However, it was not a plain sailing sort of match. Taylor looked like he had the match sewn up when he signalled for the Omega Driver, looking for it on Quackenbush. However, Sterling James Keenan took this opportunity to run to ringside and distract Taylor, allowing Quackenbush to sneak up from behind with a Backslide for three- ***

After the match, Taylor had a complete tantrum, destroying the ringside area, throwing chairs around and shouting about how he was screwed over again. He eventually left showing continued frustration.

Match 7
Open Stipulation Title Match- Low-Ki (c) vs Gran Akuma

An excellent match, matching their matches in other promotions. It was pretty much a strikefest, with Low-Ki and Akuma exchanging chops and kicks back and forth. It wasn’t to Akuma’s credit as while he did manage to wind Low-Ki on a few occasions, Low-Ki hat considerably harder and Akuma struggled at times to keep up with him. Akuma however was able to effectively use submission to keep Low-Ki grounded, combining them with his strikes to put an effective strategy together that almost won him the title. After a hard kick exchange, including a hard kick right to the face by Akuma on Low-Ki that did NOT send him to the mat, Ki came back with the Ki Krusher, and then pinned Akuma after the Top Rope Double Stomp- ***3/4

Match 8
Main Event, Grudge Match- The Anarchistic Punishers (Arik Cannon and B-Boy) vs The Black and The Brave (Tyler Black and Marek Brave)

An excellent main event, more than matching their first tag match to a point. The match started quick, with the two teams just going right at it, although Cannon made sure that B-Boy worked over Tyler Black rather than taking him on himself.
Cannon and B-Boy again worked over Marek Brave, isolating him from his corner and using every double team move they could to try and stop him making the tag.
However, it was only a matter of time before Brave was able to find a way through to his partner, and he made the tag. Black came in a house on fire as he took out B-Boy then finally got his hands on Arik Cannon. They exchanged strikes, with Black getting the advantage with some chops and punches, before knocking Cannon to the outside.
This is when the match took a turn for the worse. As Brave and B-Boy brawled on the outside, Cannon pushed the timekeeper through his chair and stole it, then as Black went for a dive through the ropes onto Cannon, he got smacked right in the face with the chair, right in front of the referee. It drew an instant DQ- ***1/2

Arik Cannon takes the chair into the ring then just starts smashing Tyler again and again and again. Marek Brave comes into the ring to try and stop him. CHAIR SHOT TO MAREK BRAVE. Cannon continues to smash Tyler again and again with the chair.

The referee now tries to take the chair away. Cannon shoves the referee away. CHAIRSHOT TO THE REFEREE. ARIK CANNON HAS SNAPPED. He continues to destroy Tyler Black with the chair, and this is getting scary.

Even B-Boy, his own tag partner, realises that Cannon is crossing the line here, and tries to stop his partner from doing something stupid. CHAIRSHOT TO B-BOY, HE TURNED ON HIS OWN PARTNER WHAT’S GOING ON HERE? He continues to just destroy Tyler Black with the chair that now has a massive dent.

Then the music of The Kings of Wrestling hits, and now it makes sense. Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli and Josh Abercrombie come out applauding as Cannon gives the thumbs up and continues to smash Black with the chair, who is now in a pool of blood.

The Kings of Wrestling get into the ring, and taunt Black as he continues to get pummelled with the chair. Officials and students run out to try and stop this, but The Kings of Wrestling beatdown anyone who gets into the ring and stop then from helping.

They then tape Marek Brave and B-Boy to the ropes, then just start beating on them with continued strikes and chairshots. Cannon, who at this point has completely lost his mind, takes some of Black’s blood and rubs it on his own chest, then drinks some of his downed opponents blood. THIS IS JUST SICK!

Finally the entire locker room empties and stops this hellacious act from continuing, but are far too late as the damage has been done. Black is slowly helped, as bandages are placed on his head to stop the bleeding and he is slowly carried onto the stretcher. The Kings Of Wrestling look on from the aisle laughing, with the clear sign here being that Arik Cannon is their newest member. Based on this evidence, this group is now the most powerful in this promotion. Who will stop them?

So that’s the show for this week. And there’s an absolute ton of questions to be answered here. What is the condition of Tyler Black after this hellacious beating? Where does B-Boy stand after his partner turned on him? Who can stop the all powerful Kings Of Wrestling? Will Chuck Taylor get revenge on Sterling James Keenan for screwing him twice? How long will Low-Ki continue to destroy the opposition? Who will become the new Tag Team Champions? Will Gran Akuma and Jigsaw face off if they don’t win the belts? When will Takeshi Morishima finally get his hands on Shiima Xion again? Can Mike Quackenbush win the Open Stipulation Title belt? All these and more will be answered in future episodes of Pro Wrestling Midwest TV.

And now we move onto next week’s show. This will be our lineup for next week’s exciting episode of pro Wrestling Midwest TV-

Next Pro Wrestling Midwest TV Lineup

Main Event, Grudge Match- Chris Hero vs Eddie Kingston>
This match was originally scheduled to happen on our last Pro Wrestling Midwest TV show of 2007. However, as Eddie Kingston was not in the best condition after two difficult matches at The Final Four, we decided that it would be best to push the match forward two shows. Now, next week, the match will take place. When these two step into the ring, it is always a hard hitting spectacle, an this should be no different. Who will win this new chapter in their feud.

Pro Wrestling Midwest Tag Team Title Match- Canadian Violence (Kevin Steen and El Generico) vs The Sweet and Sour Coalition (Larry Sweeney and Azrieal) vs The Chikarmy (Jigsaw and Gran Akuma) vs Incoherence (Delirious and Hallowicked)

Number One Contenders Four Way- Chuck Taylor vs Kevin Steen vs Mike Quackenbush vs Delirious

Matt Sydal vs ‘Sterling James Keenan’s ‘Monster’
Matt Sydal has demanded this match following the attack by Sterling James Keenan and his ‘monster’. Keenan interfered during the match leading to a no contest, and now Sydal feels that he was cost a match that he would have won otherwise. Will Sydal pull out a massive upset and end The Monster’s unbeaten run, or will the run continue?

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this week’s show. Make sure to tune in next week.
