MJF says he’s looking forward to his AEW World Title defense against Alec Price at the Limitless Rumble, but insists he’s not looking past Bandido tonight. The AEW World Champion is scheduled to defend his title against Price at the Limitless Wrestling event on Friday. However, he is also defending the title tonight on AEW Dynamite.
The Salt of the Earth spoke with Justin Barrasso for Undisputed to promote his match with Price. You can see the highlights below:
On His Brief Time in the Independents:
“My independent run wasn’t long, but it was very important. There was a point where I was wrestling four shows a week, every week, for the entire calendar year for over two years in a row. My second year in the business, I got signed to MLW. I was signed there for three years. Now I’ve been signed to AEW for seven years. In only a few years, I became a bedrock of independent wrestling.”
On The Importance Of the Indie Scene:
“There are young guys who are taken advantage of on the indie scene. Promoters are telling them they can’t lose, or they can’t wrestle here, that they can’t do this and they can’t do that. I came up in the industry when there were zero restrictions on the indie scene. I got to share locker rooms with guys who are now world champions and world-class coaches, whether that be in AEW, WWE, or TNA. That was an incredible learning experience.
“Independent professional wrestling is now more important than it’s ever been. I’ve seen a lot of these guys and gals come into major wrestling promotions, and they look greener than Luchasaurus’ shit-stained underwear. I look at a guy like Alec Price, who was just starting to get hot when I was getting out of the independent scene, and I could see right away that the guy could talk and he could wrestle. I love his tag partner Jordan Oliver, too. But Alec, he was smaller than my f**king left calf. Now he put on size, and he’s added even more attitude and charisma.”
On His Match With Bandido Tonight:
“I’m not looking past Bandido. That would be idiotic. So there is a possibility that I walk into Limitless and this is a straight-up exhibition. Do I think those odds are low? Of course. Do I think I’m going to beat Bandido? Yes. But I respect the challenge he presents, and I’d never overlook that. That’s why I look forward to coming to Maine as the most prestigious world champion in all of wrestling.”
On Price:
“Because of my time in independent professional wrestling, by the time I was on AEW television, I was a seasoned f**king ring general. People weren’t accustomed to a guy who could wrestle and talk as well as I could. One of the reasons I admire Alec, and one of the reasons I want to get in the ring with him, is that he reminds me of me. Do I think he’s going to beat me and become world champion? F**king doubtful. I’m excited to humble him and all the people in Maine who think otherwise. As one of the all-time greats said, the cream always rises to the top. We’ll find out if Alec Price is light cream or if he’s heavy cream this Friday against me.”
