Should WWE Put The Divas Inside Hell In A Cell?

As the WWE Divas Revolution rolls on, 411Mania’s Greg DeMarco suggests one very large step in their elevation—putting two Divas inside Hell In A Cell!

As you likely gathered from my last article, I am not a big fan of Eva Marie. Not in the least. In fact, I went as far to suggest that the WWE cut that experiment short, as the special individual training didn’t pay off, and she is getting worse with each outing.

But now I am back with a suggestion that is quite the opposite. It involves the Divas Revolution, and the next step in elevating the mainstream fans’ perception of the entire division.

I think it’s time to put some Divas through hell…

…in a Cell.

Since its July inception, the WWE’s Divas Revolution has been a hot-button topic for many wrestling fans. The initial excitement quickly wore off because the characters weren’t developed enough, and we were being treated to a rotation of sorts. Add in the typical WWE 50/50 booking and no one seemed ahead. No one not named Nikki Bella, anyway.

The Revolution really came to a head two Mondays ago, when Nikki Bella lost to Charlotte by disqualification due to a caught Twin Magic, and in the process retained her Divas Championship, breaking AJ Lee’s record title reign in the process. Of course, everyone was quick to point out that she didn’t eclipse The Fabulous Moolah’s reign, a fact no one bothered to mention when AJ Lee established her record.

While many fans argued against this decision by the WWE, I argued in its favor. In fact, I saw it as proof that the Divas Revolution was actually working.

After breaking AJ’s record, Nikki Bella had more people invested in a Divas Championship match than ever before. When Charlotte won the title at Night Of Champions, it was viewed as the right call, and her win was celebrated. Personally? I think Nikki should have won thanks to interference, setting up a final encounter. But that didn’t happen.

Instead Charlotte won the championship, and the following night Paige turned on her PCB sister, becoming the new lead heel for the division in the process.

Charlotte obviously has big plans for herself, and a big vision for the Divas division as a whole. She has already claimed she will someday main event WrestleMania—something her famed father has never even done—and has also suggested a match between herself and UFC draw Ronda Rousey.

While I think those two suggestions carry a “slim-to-none” chance of happening, I think Charlotte is on to something:

The time is now to elevate the Divas.

Paige hates Charlotte and Charlotte hates Paige. That’s reason enough to put them in Hell In A Cell. I mean last year John Cena found himself facing Randy Orton for the right to be #1 Contender to the World Heavyweight Championship after losing a match for the right to face Seth Rollins. I’d say Paige and Charlotte have more credibility stepping in the Cell than that.

Now the WWE has already revealed one Hell In A Cell match for the pay-per-view, and it’s a doozy.

It’s easy to speculate that Seth Rollins and Kane will meet inside the Cell as well, but given Kane’s multiple personalities, it appear that the Big Red Director of Operations will have a slower burn to his official in-ring return (house shows in Mexico notwithstanding).

While there are other options for the Cell (Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt, John Cena vs Seth Rollins again), I think the Divas can get the most use out of it.

I tossed out the suggestion on Twitter, and it was met with a little resistance. The biggest piece of the argument against the match was the lack of a HIAC worthy spot, or moment, possible in the pairing. That same argument can be applied to the upcoming Hell In A Cell Match between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker. Given The Undertaker’s condition, I cannot see him taking any huge Cell risks. And while the Divas aren’t likely throwing themselves from the structure, I can definitely see them fighting on top of it. I can see them involving a table much like John Cena and Randy Orton from 2014.

But it’s not the chosen high spot or the producing of the match itself that matters. It’s the opportunity. It’s the perception.

Because as much as we, the hardcore fan base, sees Hell In A Cell as a diluted shell of its former self, mired in a lack of bloodshed that the match grew to be known for, the mainstream/casual fans still see the structure as a larger-than-life arena for battle.

The Cell sells itself, and by putting two Divas inside of it on pay-per-view, the Cell will sell the Divas division, the Divas Revolution, and will help the entire fan base take seriously the WWE’s female contingent.

And it’d be so simple to build. Just have Charlotte (who is already talking a big game) issue the challenge, Paige accept, and Stephanie make the match. Triple H can scoff at it in a backstage segment, and Stephanie–the one who introduced the Revolution in the first place–can simply reply with “let them prove it to you.”

And that’s the argument I present to all of us. Whether you think the Divas deserve it or not… whether you think the Revolution is working or not… take the decision out of our hands.

Put them in a Cell, and let them prove it to us.
