AEW President Tony Khan has revealed that WWE never approached the Jacksonville-based company to use Adam Copeland (FKA Edge) for John Cena’s ongoing Farewell Tour.

In his Retirement Tour, Cena has wrestled and referenced some of his longtime rivals, much to the delight of fans. Amid this, fans had been yearning for The Unseen 17 to lock horns with one of his greatest rivals in Edge one last time. Amid his current absence from AEW TV, rumors of Adam Copeland’s contract expiring before the end of 2025 led to renewed anticipation from fans. Some even hoped that the erstwhile Edge might show up on WWE TV despite being signed to AEW as part of a negotiation between the two companies.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Tony Khan revealed that WWE never approached his company to inquire about Adam Copeland’s contract status or to seek his services for a one-off appearance during Cena’s Farewell Tour. Khan also heaped high praise on the Rated-R Superstar, stating that he is very happy to have the Canadian as part of his company and declaring that Copeland will stay with AEW for the foreseeable period. He also revealed that Adam’s current absence stems from his filming commitments.

“No. I mean, you never say never in wrestling. Because I would imagine they [WWE] could always extend that date past the end of the year. But no, Adam is going to be here with us through the year. And Adam Copeland is a huge part of AEW. I have so much respect for him, and I really, really like Adam Copeland a lot, and I’m glad I have him here, and he’s away filming, but he’s with us, and he’s going to stay with us,” Khan said.

Copeland last appeared on AEW television on the post-All Out episode of Dynamite this past September. It will be interesting to see if he returns to weekly programming before the end of this year.
