Update on Why Summer Rae Was Released From WWE

– As previously reported, former WWE Superstar and Total Divas cast member Summer Rae was let go by the WWE. During a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio (via Sportskeeda), some more details were revealed on her WWE exit.

Initially, WWE’s hope for her was to have her in a non-wrestling role, and she would work in a similar capacity to Torrie Wilson or Stacy Keibler when they were previously in WWE. However, WWE no longer saw Summer Rae as a good fit for that role. Ultimately, her angle with Rusev and Lana was scrapped after Lana revealed on social media how she and Rusev became engaged in real life. After news outlets picked up the story, WWE was apparently unable to salvage Summer Rae’s part in the angle.
