411’s IMPACT WRESTLING REPORT 10.15.14

  • Match times are not exact.

Welcome everyone to 411’s IMPACT Wrestling coverage, and we’re fresh off of Bound for Glory, though I doubt this episode, which was taped in advance of the show, will have too terribly much to do with it.

Angle is out first, and he addresses the crowd, talking about how he’s been the Executive Director of Wrestling Operations, and how the quality of wrestling competition has never been better anywhere. He says that the level of competition was tilted last week and he can’t have that, so he asks Lashley to come out so that he can address him. We get a recap of Lashley interfering in Bobby Roode’s match as the champion makes his way to the ring. Angle thanks Lashley for coming out and says that he knows Lashley and his associates aren’t happy with him. Angle told MVP and Kenny King to take the night off, because he can’t have them manipulating the world title picture. Angle tells Lashley that he has to defend his title at all times and asks why Lashley turned down Roode’s request for a rematch. Lashley says that Roode already had a shot at his title and then asks Angle if he wants a shot. They have a staredown, and Angle takes the microphone back. He tells Lashley that one day, they will fight and that Lashley is going to regret that day. Angle says that today isn’t the day, but he is going to get Lashley a number one contender. The main event is going to consist of four competitors: Eric Young, Jeff Hardy, Austin Aries, and Bobby Roode. All four men make their way to the top of the ramp individually and play to the crowd. Angle says Lashley has competed against all four competitors already, but the winner of the match will get the opportunity to face Lashley again for the World title.

Video package of Dreamer inducting Team 3D into the TNA Hall of Fame and snippets of Devon and Bully’s speeches. All three guys are pretty emotional about the proceedings, and they put over the talent in TNA and the fans. While it lacked the splendor of WWE’s Hall of Fame induction stuff, the intimacy certainly gave it a cool feel.

Backstage, Matt Hardy is asked about his brother being in the main event, but before he can answer, Magnus comes up and introduces himself and runs down the Hardys for losing the tag title tournament. Matt replies by running down Magnus and Bram’s relationship in comparison to his with Jeff, and he challenges Magnus to a match, which Magnus agrees to.

Knockouts Championship Singles Match: Havok © vs Madison Rayne

Rayne ties up with Havok to start the match, but Havok quickly tosses her down. Rayne goes for a rear waistlock, but Havok easily shakes her loose. Rayne runs the ropes and Havok lifts her up, but Rayne counters with a dropkick. She follows it up with another dropkick that sends Havok rolling to the outside. Rayne tries a cross body from the apron, but Havok catches her and slams her into the ring apron. Havok rolls her back into the ring and wears her down with strikes, easily stifling Rayne’s comeback attempts. Havok locks in a modified full nelson before turning it into a backbreaker and slamming Rayne into the mat. Rayne uses forearm strikes to get back to her feet and charges Havok, but Havok easily slams her down before sending her into the corner. Havok with a series of shoulders to the midsection in the corner and she scoops Rayne up for a side backbreaker slam which she turns into a backbreaker submission. She picks Rayne up again and does the same thing, but she releases the submission to toss Rayne to the floor by the hair. Havok picks Rayne up and looks for the hammerlock slam into the ringpost that injured Gail Kim but earl Hebner stops her. Rayne dropkicks Havok in the back while the champion is arguing with Hebner, but her attempt to slam Havok into the ringpost fails. Havok’s follow-up charge sends her shoulderfirst into the post, though. Havok manages to follow Rayne into the ring, where Rayne continues her offense, but a sunset flip attempt allows Havok to goozle Rayne and pull her to her feet. Havok backs her into the corner, but Rayne against goes on the offensive with strikes and she climbs to the top after backing Havok off. Rayne with a dropkick, but her subsequent pinfall attempt barely gets two. Havok hammers Rayne down but misses an elbow drop. Rayne tries to go on the offensive, but Havok quickly shuts that down and connects with the Harlot Slayer for the win!

Official Result: and STILL Knockouts Champion Havok via Pinfall (Harlot Slayer, 6:00)

Backstage, Angle talks to Devon about getting inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, which allows Devon to talk about the success that Team 3D has enjoyed and he says he’s committed to doing whatever Angle needs for the TNA roster. Eric Young talks about the main event, and he says that he had less than a 5% chance on the night that he won the belt, but tonight, he’s got a 25% chance and he likes those odds.

Singles Match: Magnus vs Matt Hardy

Circling to start and Magnus ties up with Matt, pushing him into the corner. Magnus makes the break and Matt shoves him backwards before landing a series of punches. Magnus grabs a headlock and Hardy sends him to the ropes, but Magnus shoulder blocks Matt down. Matt counters with some strikes and a leg drop, but his cover only gets a two. He looks for the Twist of Fate, but Magnus slides out of the ring. He stalls until Hardy comes after him, which prompts him to grab Hardy in a powerbomb position and slam him backfirst into the post before powerbombing him to the floor. Magnus rolls in and taunts the crowd before rolling back out to roll Matt back into the ring. He gets a two count, so he pulls Matt up into a suplex and gets another two count. Matt throws punches and forearm strikes, but Magnus ducks Matt’s enziguiri attempt and drops an elbow on Matt’s back. He sends Matt to the ropes but ducks too early and eats a kick, but he quickly recovers and clotheslines Matt down before getting a two count. Magnus slows the pace down, grabbing a chinlock and shoving his knees into Matt’s back, but Matt gets to his feet and lands some punches to the midsection, but Magnus sends him to the mat before going to the top rope. He comes off the top, but Matt moves out of the way and they both get to their feet. Matt lands some punches, but Magnus counters, only to get whipped to the ropes and hiptossed by Matt. Matt follows with a clothesline, a corner clothesline, and a bulldog, but he can only get two. Magnus gets to his feet and charges, but Matt catches him with a Side Effect for two. Matt goes up top and connects with a moonsault, but Magnus kicks out at two. Matt sets up for the Twist of Fate, but Magnus shoves him hard into the corner. Matt avoids Magnus’ subsequent charge and goes up top for a victory roll, but Magnus counters into a pinning predicament and grabs the ropes. Stiffler sees Magnus’ attempted rule breaking and warns him, so Magnus jaws with him. He turns around into a Twist of Fate and that’s enough for the pinfall!

Official Result: Matt Hardy via Pinfall (Twist of Fate, 5:47)

ECIII is backstage and he talks about how Spud’s time was limited as soon as Dixie went through the table, and he says that he’s scoured the world to find a replacement bodyguard, who he’ll reveal tonight.

Six-Person Intergender Tag Team Match: Angelina Love/The BroMans (DJ Z/Jessie Godderz) (with Velvet Sky) vs The Menagerie (Crazzy Steve/Knux/Rebel)

Angelina looks concerned to start, but Godderz flatters her and sets her mind at ease, and she starts with Rebel, in spite of Crazzy Steve’s best efforts to square off with Angelina. DJ Z distracts Rebel, allowing Love to clothesline Rebel from behind. She tags in DJ Z, which brings in Knux, and while Z’s initial sneak attack gains him an advantage, Knux uses his size to take control, culminating in Knux spanking Z (literally). Knux tags in Steve and scoop slams him onto Z, but it’s only good for two, and Z is able to back Steve into the BroMans corner, where he tags in Godderz. Godderz gorilla press slams Steve and taunts Knux, and while Steve tries to comeback, Godderz quickly shuts it down. Godderz distracts the ref, allowing Velvet to choke Steve on the bottom rope, and he tags in Z. They double team Steve and Z hits a running double knee to Steve’s back on the ropes before getting a two count and tagging Godderz back in. Godderz uses his power to keep Steve grounded, but Steve avoids a charge and while Godderz recovers from heading shoulderfirst into the post, Steve tags in Rebel. Rebel does some split-based kicks to Angelina and slaps DJ Z, who is subsequently kicked on the outside by Knux. This distraction allows Love to get a rollup, but Rebel kicks out. She tags in Steve, who hits a variety of unusual offense on Godderz. He tries for a pin, but Love breaks it up, prompting Steve to set her up for a forced French kiss, but Godderz breaks it up. He gorilla presses Steve for multiple reps, but Steve slips off his back and connects with a DDT for the pin!

Official Result: The Menagerie via Pinfall (Crazzy Steve DDT on Jessie Godderz, 5:18)

ECIII will reveal his new bodyguard next! Backstage, Bobby Roode talks about going through every single obstacle, but Austin Aries interrupts him to tell Roode that he appreciated Roode wishing him luck before his match with Lashley. He says that every time he and Roode step into the ring, it’s magic, and tonight, with four former World Champions in the ring, it’s going to be magic. Roode agrees and says tonight is his shot. Aries says it’s all of their shots, and no hard feelings no matter what they have to do to get the shot.

ECIII makes his way to the top of the ramp, and he brings out a guy who looks a lot like a dancing dinosaur from Planet Funk. Carter’s new bodyguard makes his way to the ring and holds the ropes open for ECIII, and we get photos of ECIII’s match at Bound for Glory, where he emerged victorious over former sumo wrestler Ryoto Hama. Carter says he has the company in checkmate and his finger on the button, and he introduces his new bodyguard at Tyrus, doing a riff on the Fight Club “his name is Bob” bit and he says that unfortunately, he’s had to make some cuts to afford Tyrus, so he tells Spud “See Ya Never!” Carter says he has a complaint, that Bully Ray is still in the TNA Hall of Fame, in spite of committing the greatest atrocity in the history of the company in putting his Aunt D through the table. He says that the fans loved it, and the boys in the back loved it, and they were partying like it was 1999. He says Bully’s actions were grounds for immediate Hall of Fame dismissal. He says the Hall of Fame reads like a Who’s Who of who he’s beaten and he lists off the people he’s beaten with emphasis provided by Tyrus. He says he’s been undefeated for a year, which prompts a “You can’t wrestle” chant and allows him to do his call-and-response with the fans. ECIII talks about remaining undefeated, which brings out Devon. Devon says all ECIII does it talk, which is why he keeps getting his ass kicked on Impact every week. Devon says there’s one person in the Hall of Fame who he hasn’t beaten: Devon. Devon says he sees Carter has hired some help, and he’s going to put Carter through a table, and if Tyrus tries to interfere, he’s going to hit him so hard he’s going to make him his “bee-yotch”. Before Devon can get into the ring, though, Bram attacks him from behind with a trash can lid. He wears Devon out with the lid and Devon sells a knee injury. Bram backs up the ramp, smiling at his handiwork.

ECIII and Tyrus are still in the ring, and ECIII says that escalated quickly and calls Bram a “bearded angel”. Tyrus says something and ECIII says he agrees, that that counts as a win, and he proclaims that he beat Devon. Tyrus raises his hand and he says he’s not ready to leave, as he’s enjoying himself, and he appreciates Tyrus being there. He says he’s prepared a treat for Tyrus, and he’s scoured the earth to find a man worthy of competing with Tyrus. He introduces Tyrus’ opponent, “TNA Legend” Shark Boy. Shark Boy’s music plays, but he’s nowhere to be found. A TNA producer is backstage looking for Shark Boy, who is in his dressing room, laying on a couch eating donuts. The producer, Pat Kenney, says he’s been looking for him for twenty minutes and wants to know where the energy is. Sharky says he can turn it on at any time. He gets up and makes his way to ringside, but not before grabbing another donut for the road.

Singles Match: Tyrus vs Shark Boy

Shark Boy starts with punches and avoids offense from Tyrus, only to land more punches. While Tyrus is stunned, Sharky stomps on ECIII’s fingers and steals his water, trying to wash down his donuts. This allows Tyrus to take control and he physically dominates Shark Boy, tossing him across the ring with a t-bone suplex. Tyrus follows it up with a running splash and he looks to ECIII for approval. ECIII nods and Tyrus hits a jumping chokeslam, following it up with one-armed pushups during the successful pinfall attempt.

Official Result: Tyrus by pinfall (Jumping chokeslam, 1:51)

Video package with highlights from Bound for Glory, with Joe retaining his X Division championship and Sanada and James Storm losing to Muta and Tajiri. Backstage, Jeff Hardy says he’s enjoyed teaming with his brother, but tonight, it’s time to get the title back! The backstage, off-camera interviewer tries to find out why Bram attacked Devon, but the Brit says that it’s none of his business and he needs to keep his nose out of it. Video package hyping the Tag Team Championship Series and the various and numerous highlights from the series of matches. The Wolves talk about the importance of winning the series and how it was the culmination of years’ worth of work. They announce an eight-team tag contendership tournament and open it up to any teams in IMPACT and around the world, but they offer a warning to any teams that may enter, as the hunt is on.

Four Corners Match for World Championship Contendership: Eric Young vs Jeff Hardy vs Austin Aries vs Bobby Roode

EY is out first, followed by Jeff Hardy (in breast cancer awareness pink, as mentioned in the comments), then Austin Aries, and finally Bobby Roode. I can’t say I understand why each guy was accompanied by clips of them losing to Lashley, but it does make the champion look nigh-unbeatable and this match should be pretty awesome with nearly thirty minutes left in the show.

Aries goes flying across the ring at the bell, dropkicking Hardy out of the ring. EY goes for an immediate pinfall on Aries, who kicks out and he gets tossed by the Canadians, who work some mat wrestling. This is apparently an elimination match, which is awesome! Aries gets back into the ring and he eats a clothesline from Roode, who then gets taken out by a top rope dropkick from EY. Hardy and Young square off and trade headlocks before Hardy counters an Irish whip to the corner into a headscissor takedown. Hardy goes up top, but Aries ambushes him and looks for a superplex to the floor. Hardy fights him off and they trade strikes on the top rope before Aries knocks Hardy to the mat. Before he can follow up, Roode shoves him to the mat. Before Roode can capitalize, EY stops him, but Roode gets the upper hand and looks to slingshot back out of the ring onto Young, who avoids it. Young tries to get back into the ring, but Aries knocks him to the floor, only to be taken down by Hardy, who uses Aries as a springboard for a Whisper in the Wind over the top rope onto Roode and Young on the floor. Aries recovers and launches himself out of the ring, wiping out all three of his opponents. Aries looks for the easy countout win over all three opponents, but EY gets back into the ring. Aries takes the fight to him, connecting with an Irish whip and a dropkick but only getting two. Hardy gets back into the ring and Aries whips him into the corner, but that allows Roode to take control and he hits a short-arm side Russian legsweep on Aries for two. Hardy sends Roode into the corner and hits a dropkick, and we go to commercial!

Aries sends Young flying over the top rope in the corner, but EY recovers and counters Aries’ charge. EY and Roode square off, culminating with Roode countering an EY charge into a big spinebuster for a two count. Roode looks for the Roode Bomb, but EY counters and Aries comes in with a slingshot senton onto Roode before taking down Young. His pinfall attempt on Young gets two, and Hardy takes over. He tries for a pinfall after taking Aries down, but Aries kicks out and Young goes to work on Hardy, looking for a powerbomb and eventually looking for a top rope elbow drop. Roode stops him and looks for a superplex, but Aries stops him and looks for his own superplex. Roode recovers too quickly and he hammers Aries down and again looks for a superplex on Young. Aries tries to help Roode with a double superplex, but Hardy comes running in and slams both Aries and Roode as they superplex Young. Hardy tries to pin all three guys in succession but can only manage a trio of two counts. Hardy goes up top for the Swanton, but Aries crotches him while Roode beats on Young and puts him on the top rope. Roode looks for a back superplex on Young while Aries tries for a vertical superplex on Hardy. Both Hardy and Young fight their opponents off and look for top rope moves (Swanton and moonsault respectively), but Aries and Roode both move. Roode hits a Roode Bomb as Aries hits a brainbuster and the ref counts the double pinfall, eliminating both Young and Hardy!

Jeff Hardy is Eliminated via Pinfall! (Austin Aries Brainbuster, 11:15 shown)

Eric Young is Eliminated via Pinfall! (Bobby Roode Roode Bomb, 11:15 shown)

Aries and Roode trade strikes and reverse each other’s bigger offense until Aries gets some big forearms on Roode from the apron. Roode counters into a fireman’s carry and looks for the Roode Bomb, but Aries slips off the back and looks for his own offense, only to be taken down into a crossface! Aries tries for the ropes, but realizing that he can’t make it, he turns into Roode and rolls him up, only getting two. Aries quickly locks in the Last Chancery, but Roode manages to get to the ropes! As Roode hangs out over the second rope, Aries slingshots over the top rope to the floor with a double axehandle. He gets back to the apron and connects with a spinning neckbreaker onto Roode. Roode manages to stagger to his feet, only to eat a missile dropkick! Aries follows it up with his running dropkick to the corner and he looks for the Brainbuster, only for Roode to slide off of his back and pick him up for the Roode Bomb. Aries escapes and hits a discus forearm before looking for the Brainbuster, but Roode knees him in the head to counter. Aries with another discus forearm, but Roode counters a charge into the Roode Bomb, which is enough for the win!

Official Result and NEW Number One Contender: Bobby Roode via Pinfall (Roode Bomb, 15:29 shown)

Young and Hardy come back to the ring and all four men face off before exchanging handshakes and hugs. Nice show of sportsmanship to close out the show, as all four men raise each other hands. Roode goes to the top turnbuckle and makes the belt around his waist motion before clapping for all three of his opponents, who leave him alone in the ring.
