Note on Ronda Rousey’s AEW Status

As previously reported, former UFC and WWE star Ronda Rousey set the wrestling community abuzz when she appeared at last Sunday’s AEW Revolution, confronting Toni Storm after she beat Rousey’s friend Marina Shafir. So what does this mean for Rousey’s AEW status? Sean Ross Sapp answered a fan question asking if Rousey is genuinely signed to AEW in the latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A.
According to Sapp, nobody in AEW would confirm anything about Rousey being signed, something that many individuals would “rush to confirm. It was also reported by Dave Meltzer in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter this week that the segment was designed as a one-off appearance rather than the start of a program between Rousey and Stom.
Unfortunately, Storm suffered a legitimate injury. As a result, she was written off TV, apparently having been attacked earlier in the day by an unknown assailant. Her friend and tag team partner, Mina Shirakawa, replaced her in a scheduled rematch against Marina Shafir, which Shirakawa won.
Ronda Rousey appearing at AEW Revolution is rumored to be part of a vendetta by the MMA fighter and wrestler against WWE parent company TKO, per Meltzer in the Observer Newsletter. Rousey is set to return to the realm of MMA soon, facing returning MMA star Gina Carano. The bout is being promoted by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.
Additionally, Meltzer reported that WWE was not happy with Rousey appearing in AEW and viewed it as an annoyance.
