The card for AEW Redemption has been taking shape over the past week, and a new report notes that the company kept plans for the show quiet as long as possible. AEW announced three matches for the inaugural iteration of the PPV on Dynamite, bumping the total announced matches up to five.
According to Fightful Select some of the plans for the show were kept “close to the vest” until Wednesday when the three matches were announced. Those three matches are Kenny Omega vs. Kevin Knight for the AEW World Championship, Kyle Fletcher vs. Bandido for the AEW International Championship, and Mark Davis vs. Andrade El Idolo for the AEW National Championship. It was also announced that Chris Jericho would be taking on his “Painmaker” persona for his match with Tommaso Ciampa.
The report goes on to mention that the TNT Champion getting a World Championship match around this time of the year has been planned for “quite some time.” It was reported earlier this week that Kevin Knight has been talked about for an advanced push within the company, including not only the World Title shot but feuds with other “world-level talent.”
Of course, the key word there is “some” of the plans, as Davis vs. El Idolo was set up on AEW Dynamite the week before with El Idolo getting a shot after he beat Jake Doyle on this week’s show.
One can expect a number of additional matches to be announced for the show, which takes place on July 26th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. It will air live on PPV.
