411’s Sunday Night Heat Report 12.16.01
Welcome to 411’s WWF Sunday Night Heat Report. Our hosts are Michael Cole and Tazz, and they are live from WWF New York. Tonight’s special guest is Christian. We start right off with a match.
Match #1- The Big Show vs. Chuck Palumbo
Show no-sells some punches and beats Palumbo in the corner. He does the same in the opposite corner, and then pummels him one corner to the left. Show abandons the corner strategy by hip-tossing Palumbo to the center of the ring. He misses a big boot and gets caught in the ropes. Palumbo kicks his leg out from…under his leg. Palumbo continues working on the leg. Palumbo hits the Jungle Kick, but it only gets two. He goes to argue with the ref, giving TBS a chance to come back. Avalanche in the corner sets up the Showstopper, but Palumbo kicks him down there (down where?). The ref goes to admonish him, giving Billy Gunn a chance to run in and hit the Famouser on show. Palumbo pins him, and gets the win!
Winner- Chuck Palumbo
Replay of Christian tapping out to the Tazzmission on SmackDown.
Michael tells us about Y2J’s big championship win. He of course, reminds us that Jericho got help in both matches. Wouldn’t want the biggest champ of all time to get over, now would we? We see the Austin-Booker supermarket brawl from SmackDown again. That was funny, especially Booker’s weeping when he begged for mercy.
Match #2- Perry Saturn vs. Funaki
Hey, check it out. Wasted workers. They lock up and Saturn hits some hard European uppercuts. Funaki makes a comeback with an armdrag and gets two off a rollup. Saturn comes right back with a one-legged pancake and his springboard dropkick. Funaki gets another rollup but is tagged with a hard clothesline for two. Perry grabs hold of a chinlock and hits some more uppercuts. He follows up with a head-butt and a brainbustaaaah. For two? Damn. Saturn drops some knees on Funaki but falls prey to a sunset flip. It only gets two and Saturn hits a superkick. Funaki reverses a suplex into a small package and scores with a bulldog. Victory roll gets two. Funaki hits a headscissor and goes up top for a flying bodypress. It only gets two. Saturn whips Funaki into the corner and then leg-sweeps him hard. He follows with a springboard legdrop. He then locks in a modified armbar which Tazz calls the new Rings of Saturn for the submission win. Very tight match.
Winner- Perry Saturn
Backstage, Christian orders some things that are not on the WWF NY menu, annoying his waitress.
Match #3- Billy Gunn vs. The Big Show
This match is the result of a challenge from The Big Show after Gunn cost him his first match earlier tonight. Gunn catches Big Show coming in but his punches are no-sold and Show blitzes with some clotheslines and punches in the corner. He tosses Gunn around until he begs off. Cross-corner whip slams Gunn into the turnbuckles hard. Show choked Gunn with his boots and he bails. Show follows and brings Gunn back in. Gunn begs off again but gets no mercy. Gunn flips out of a reverse suplex and Palumbo comes in to interfere, but gets rejected by Show. Showstopper puts Gunn down for three.
Winner- The Big Show
Tazz interrupts Christian while he is on the phone. Christian refuses to go out for the interview. He says he won’t go out until Tazz admits he cheated to beat him on SmackDown. Tazz admits it and Christian heads out. Christian comes out for his interview and Tazz recants his earlier admission. These two will face off tomorrow on Raw for the European Title and Tazz guarantees a victory tomorrow night. Christian says the Tazzmission is an illegal chokehold under European rules. Christian walks out and Tazz calls him a bitch, so he comes back. They stare each other down and Christian takes a swing at Tazz with the Euro belt. Tazz ducks, and locks in the Kati Hajime. Christian is a cruiserweight and Tazz is still WAY shorter than him.
Main Event- Jacqueline vs. Trish Stratus for the WWF Women’s Title
Jacqueline hits some kicks and chops then just NAILS Trish with a clothesline. Trish tries to send Jackie to the outside, but she skins the cat and headscissors her to the outside. She baseball slide dropkicks Trish onto the barrier and they head back in. The pounding continues until Trish gets a small package. Jackie regains the momentum until Trish hits The One Move She Can Do for the win.
They hype tomorrow’s main event, RVS vs. Y2J.
See ya next week.
