WWE recently saw a heavy increase in the lead-up to and during WrestleMania 42. Based on a report by Fightful Select, the recent celebrity involvement with storylines and angles isn’t stopping anytime soon.
WrestleMania 42 saw IShowSpeed teaming with The Vision’s Austin Theory and Logan Paul. Jelly Roll and Pat McAfee were involved in Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton’s title bout. Lil Yachty also appeared alongside Trick Williams for his US Title Match against Sami Zayn. WWE was reportedly extremely happy with all the celebrities’ performances at the premium live event.
Additionally, Fightful notes that celebrity involvement with WWE isn’t stopping anytime soon. Although it was reiterated to Fightful that celebrity crossovers will slow down following WrestleMania season, there are still plans for celebrities to be figured into WWE programming in the near future, as early as this summer.
Fightful also notes that no names were given as far as what celebrities are planned for future angles. NFL legend Tom Brady was reportedly contacted about appearing in WWE, but the report says it’s unknown why the appearance didn’t come together. Back in March, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE was in negotiations with Brady, but no deal had been made yet.
Another rumor said that WWE was planning a tag team match at Backlash with Jelly Roll and Cody Rhodes against Randy Orton and Jelly Roll. However, it was also later reported by Dave Meltzer on WOR that Jelly Roll and McAfee opted out of the angle after the negative response to them being a part of Rhodes and Orton’s feud.
