Michael Elgin & Jeff Cobb vs. David Finlay & Katsuya Kitamura: Finlay and Cobb start off, they work some basic back and forth until Cobb just tosses Finlay aside. Finlay picks up the pace, hits a dropkick and Kitamura knocks Elgin to the floor. They double-team Cobb, with Finlay covering for 2. Finlay follows with forearms, but Cobb catches him with a suplex and tosses him across the ring. Elgin tags in, hits his slingshot splash and covers for 2. They trade strikes, but Elgin cuts off the Finlay comeback with a great dropkick. Cobb tags in, continues control with a delayed vertical suplex; Elgin tags in and takes Finlay from him and continues with the delay. Cobb back in and takes Finlay back and finally suplexes him, covering for 2. The crowd loved that. Finlay picks up the pace, hits a back elbow and we get wholesale changes to Elgin and Kitamura, they trade chops and Kitamura follows with a gut wrench suplex, covering for 2. Kitamura then loses Elgin on a press slam, so Elgin shows him how it’s done until Kitamura escapes. Elgin hits the enziguri, and tags in Cobb. Finlay back in as well, but is cut off by double teams. Big Mike and Big Jeff double team Kitamura, hitting stereo lariats and Finlay rushes in to make the save. Finlay counters out of suplexes, and starts to run wild with strikes until Cobb catches him and tosses him to Elgin who plants him with a German, Kitamura spears Elgin and then Cobb, covering for 2. Kitamura fires up and looks for the jackhammer, but Cobb escapes and hits the tour of the islands for the win. Michael Elgin & Jeff Cobb defeated David Finlay & Katsuya Kitamura @ 8:26 via pin [**¾] The big boys move to 2-1, while Finlay and Kitamura fall to 0-3. This was a pretty good match, with Elgin and Cobb again wowing the crowd with their power moves; I’d love for them to be a regular team in NJPW. Kitamura felt a bit off today, including dropping Elgin on the press slam attempt.

Togi Makabe & Henare vs. Best Friends: Trent and Henare to begin. Trent uses his speed to take the early advantage, but Henare fights back, using his power. Chuckie T tags in, and Henare take both he and Trent down. He follows with rights until Trent pulls him to the floor and Chuckie T wipes him out with a tope. Back in we go and Chuckie T takes Henare to his corner and Trent tags in, maintaining control, and laying in chops. Henare looks to counter, but favors the previously injured leg, allowing Trent to attack and hit a chop block. He starts working over the leg, tagging in Chuckie T, and they start working double teams. Chuckie T grounds the young lion, continuing to work the leg. He knocks Makabe to the floor as Trent tags in. The soul food/German combo hits and Trent covers for 2 and then locks on an ankle lock. Trent continues to work over Henare, keeping him grounded. Henare finally battles back, hitting a desperation suplex. Makabe gets the hot tag and runs wild, sending Chuckie T to the floor and trading strikes with Trent. The big lariat follows and Makabe covers for 2. Trent battles back, hitting a tornado DDT and tagging in Chuckie T. Makabe takes both out with lariats and tags in Henare. He works over Chuckie T, but gets cut off and rolled up for 2. Chuckie T locks on an ankle lock, but Henare counters into a roll up for 2. The Samoan drop follows and that also gets 2. Chuckie T hits a superkick, Makabe is sent to the floor and the Best friends double chokeslam Henare. Makabe makes the save but gets tossed as Chuckie T piledives Henare for a good near fall. Trent tags in, and double teams lead to strong zero for the win. Best Friends defeated Togi Makabe & Henare @ 9:25 via pin [***] The Best friends move to 2-1, while Makabe & Henare drop to 0-3. This was a good back and forth match, with an interested crowd that bought into the near falls down the stretch. Fun stuff overall.

KES vs. Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano: Yano and Archer to begin. Archer chases Yano around, and attacks. Yano runs to the ropes for the break, but Archer grabs his legs and pulls him back in. Yano goes for anatomic drop, but Archer avoids and Yano tags in Ishii. He and Smith trade strikes, Archer gets in a cheap shot sand knocks Yano to the floor, and follows, beating him down. Smith takes over on Ishii, laying in ground and pound. He then locks on a crossface, grounding him and keeping control. Ishii makes the ropes and Archer tags in, and KES work double teams. Archer follows with a big shoulder block, turning Ishii inside out. Ishii tries to fire back with chops, but gets cut off as Smith tags back in, covering for 2. Smith lays in strikes, but Ishii finally cuts him off with a Saito suplex. Yano gets the hot tag, and takes off the buckle pad and works over Smith with it. Smith avoids the exposed buckle, until Yano avoids a knee strike and Smith catches the exposed buckle. Smith battles back, hits a powerslam and Archer tags in but the ref stops Yano’s low blow attempt. Ishii tags back in and works over Archer, and sends him to the exposed buckle. Archer cuts off the brainbuster with a slam, and hits a full nelson slam for a really good near fall. Archer grabs the arm, heads up top but Yano crotches him and stuns Smith off the ropes. Ishii follows Archer up and hits a big superplex. Ishii hits lariats and head butts, and picks up a near fall. Archer cuts him off, Smith back in and they hit the hart attack for 2 as Yano makes the save. KES keeps working over Ishii with double teams, and the crowd is into all of these near falls big time. Ishii fights off the killer bomb, hits a German and Yano low blows Archer, Ishii follows with a lariat but Smith makes the save. Ishii looks for a brainbuster, but Archer counters out; Smith hits him with a Saito suplex and Archer hits the chokeslam for a great near fall. Ishii keeps fighting, but finally falls to the killer bomb. KES defeated Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano @ 12:48 via pin [***½] The tag champs go to 3-0, while the boys from CHAOS drop to 1-2. This was a very good match, one of the best so far in the tournament, with the crowd adding so much to it down the stretch as Ishii fought with everything he had, and the crowd buying into all of the near falls big time. Ishii is amazing at how easily he can get a crowd to invest in him emotionally. This was very good and a lot of fun.

The Guerrillas of Destiny vs. War Machine: Tonga and Hanson to begin. They stall a bit to begin, with Tonga seemingly wanting no part of Hanson. They finally lock up, with Hanson tossing him aside. They lock up again and more of the same. Hanson now hits a shoulder block, taking Tonga down. Tonga picks up the pace, but Hanson avoids the dropkick and then the gun stun and they end in a stand off. Rowe and Loa tag in, and they collide center ring. After some shit talk, they pick up the pace and Loa gets a cradle for 2. Rowe shoots Loa the middle finger, so they work into some counters, and we get another stand off. They fist bump out of respect, Rowe takes control and tags in Hanson so he can slam him on Loa. They work over Loa in their corner, work quick tags and take control of things. Rowe cuts off Loa’s attempted comeback, laying in strikes. Loa manages to roll into a tag, and Tonga lays in strikes on Rowe, and dropkicks Hanson to the floor. Tonga takes the time to talk some shit, and gets a roll up for 2. Loa back in, and thy take control in their corner. The sitout powerbomb connects for 2. Rowe battles back and hits a knee strike and both men are down. We get wholesale changes to Hanson and Tonga, Hanson runs wild on both Guerrillas, and works forever clotheslines and then stacks both in the corner. Clubbing strikes follow and then the broncobuster to both. War Machine work double teams on Tonga, and then a powerbomb and Hanson splash connects for 2. Loa pulls Hanson to the floor and then double team Rowe. Rowe starts to fight back, taking out Loa and then the pop up powerslam and Hanson suicide dive follow. Hanson is back in and Loa cuts off the double team, and the double team DDT connects for 2 on Rowe. Hanson makes the comeback, and looks for fallout and it connects but Tonga kicks out. They go for it again, but Loa cuts off Hanson and powerslams Rowe. Hanson flies in with a senton, and eats a DDT. Tonga then hits Hanson with a reverse DDT and hits the gun stun on Rowe for a good near fall. Tonga locks in a variation on the twister, but Rowe rolls for the ropes. Loa takes out Hanson, and Rowe submits for the Guerrillas victory. The Guerrillas of Destiny defeated War Machine @ 14:14 via submission [**¾] Both teams move to 2-1. This was a pretty good match, worked at a pretty slow pacing early on until they decided to go to the finisher kick outs. I dig Tonga introducing a new/alternate finish, but it fell flat here.

The final score: review Good
The 411
Day 8 saw some more movement in the B block, with KES on top undefeated, four teams tied behind them and two teams still looking for a win. Today’s show was an overall good effort, with the B block putting back to back good efforts.
