At WWE Wrestlepalooza, Brock Lesnar destroyed John Cena in less than nine minutes. Although some fans thought this might set up an eventual rematch between Cena and Lesnar, that’s reportedly not the case, and the two are not scheduled to match up again. During the latest edition of the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan questioned the booking of the recent John Cena and Brock Lesnar match since WWE isn’t building to a rematch between Cena and Lesnar. Below are some highlights (via WrestlingInc.com):
Konnan on the finish for Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena: “I don’t understand, if they’re not going to have a rematch, why he beat him so convincingly? Didn’t we see this 10 years ago when he did all those suplexes on him and all that?”
On how the WWE didn’t have to destroy Cena without setting up a rematch: “I mean, I think the second time, if you saw both and does he do anything besides F5s and suplexes, can we get a match out of him? I thought maybe that we’re going to have a rematch in Boston, but from what I’m [hearing] ’cause I thought, ‘Okay, this is a great setup for Boston, his last match,’ but I’m reading it isn’t. They’re setting him [Lesnar] up for Bron Breaker and WrestleMania. But you don’t just — I don’t think you got to destroy John Cena to do that.”
Following the loss to Lesnar, Cena quickly set his sights on his next opponent, a match with his old rival, AJ Styles, which will take place at WWE Crown Jewel Perth on Saturday, October 11. The premium live event takes place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, airing live on the ESPN App in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally.
