Maryland Attorney General Files Motion In ‘Ring Boys’ Lawsuit Against WWE

The Maryland Attorney General’s office has reportedly filed a motion in the “ring boys” lawsuit filed against WWE, TKO, Vince McMahon, and Linda McMahon. As you may know, a group of former WWE “ring boys” filed a lawsuit against the aforementioned defendants in October of 2024. The lawsuit alleges that former WWE employees Mel Phillips and Terry Garvin abused the boys and that Vince and Linda McMahon were aware of it but did nothing.
The lawsuit was empowered by the Maryland Child Victims Act, which was passed in 2023. As reported by BJ Bethel, the Missouri AG office filed a motion on March 31st in the lawsuit. The motion is seeking to defend the Maryland Child Victims Act, which has allowed the Ring Boys lawsuit to move forward.
The CVA permanently removed the statute of limitations in regard to civil lawsuits regarding childhood sexual abuse, thus allowing survivors to sue abusers and institutions regardless of when the abuse occurred. Because the allegations made are in relation to alleged acts in the 1980s and 1990s, the statute of limitations would have otherwise applied without the Child Victims Act.
Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon, and TKO have argued that the CVA violates the US and Maryland constitutions. The Maryland Supreme Court have already ruled in favor of the CVA’s constitutionality, having done so in February. The Maryland AG office filed the motion “for the limited purposes” of defending the CVA’s constitutionality.
The McMahons also filed a motion in January opposing the request by the plaintiffs to keep their names anonymous to the public.
