– During a recent edition of the Marking Out podcast, AEW’s MVP spoke about an instance where fellow AEW star Chris Jericho campaigned to have MVP beat him in WWE. MVP then brought that forward in his own career when he put over MJF in MLW. Below are some highlights (via WrestlingInc.com):
MVP on Chris Jericho asking to lose to him: “Chris Jericho campaigned for me to beat him one day in a match, and Chris Jericho said, ‘It doesn’t hurt me to lose to you, but it does a lot for you to beat me.’ And he campaigned for me to win.”
MVP on how he used that later in MLW with MJF: “And I learned that, and I went ‘Okay.’ There are certain…Like, when I was in MLW with MJF, we had a match, I put MJF over. And it reminds me of that period, you know? It didn’t hurt me, and where he was at in his time in his career coming up, it was a really good win for him. And that’s professionalism.”
Jericho and MVP had reportedly had an acrimonious relationship before MVP joined AEW. It’s rumored they had a physical altercation on the Jericho Cruise some years ago. Also, it was rumored that the two had argued at a hotel for an AEW event.
However, during MVP’s first night in AEW, Fightful reported that MVP went to Jericho’s locker room, and the two worked out their issues. So, the two wrestling talents now appear to be on good terms after that.
