As reported previously, former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion David Finlay has been exploring his options outside New Japan Pro-Wrestling as his contract with the promotion nears expiration.
Last month, WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that WWE is interested in signing Finlay, with his name being discussed internally.
Fightful Select is now reporting that while there has been contact between David Finlay and WWE, they have yet to learn more about the situation.
Finlay, of course, has been a vital part of New Japan Pro-Wrestling since 2015, having worked over 800 matches for the promotion. He has held the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title twice. Additionally, he is a one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion, a one-time NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champion, and a one-time NEVER Openweight Champion. The 32-year-old also won the New Japan Cup last year and is also a holder of the World Tag League (with Juice Robinson) in 2019.
He is set to battle Callum Newman in a singles match at The New Beginning in Osaka on February 11.
