It was reported yesterday that Spanish play-by-play announcer Carlos Cabrera had been released from WWE after 29 years with the company. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that this was an age-related decision on the part of WWE, as they are looking for someone younger to fill his role.
Cabrera is currently 62 years old and has worked as the lead Spanish announcer since 1993. He worked with Hugo Savinovich from 1993 to 2011, then Marcelo Rodriguez from 2011 to 2022. He did the Spanish announcing for RAW, Smackdown, NXT and all PPV events from WWE’s studios in Stamford, once the decision was made to remove the announce team from ringside.
