Original Plans Revealed For AJ Styles & Kevin Owens’ Matches at SummerSlam

– A new report has revealed the original planned matches for Kevin Owens, John Cena, AJ Styles and Charlotte at SummerSlam. According to SportsKeeda’s Billi Bhatti, John Cena was originally set to face AJ Styles, Shane McMahon was to face Kevin Owens and Naomi would have taken on Charlotte. The match plans were changed to Owens vs. Styles with McMahon as guest referee and Cena vs. Baron Corbin, while Charlotte isn’t on the card.
While the specific details are not confirmed, it appears as if Cena vs. Styles was changed so WWE could let the McMahon/Owens feud develop a little longer and lead to a match at Hell in a Cell. WWE wants a marketable match for that card. The site confirms an earlier report that the Styles/Owens match at Battleground was changed midmatch.
Plans for Charlotte vs. Naomi at SummerSlam were changed less than two days before Battleground, where Natalya won the #1 contender’s match. This is in order to extend Naomi’s run with the Smackdown Women’s Championship.
