Predicting John Cena’s Last Few Matches

A lot of stuff has been said about Cena’s last year, some of it by me, even, but we are now reaching the end of it, so I wanted to look at what his possible last few matches could end up being. After his match with AJ Styles at Crown Jewel, Cena will be down to four dates; those four dates will cover Survivor Series and December’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. That leaves two Raw appearances, and since he isn’t showing up on SmackDown again, that means his last few matches will probably be against Raw talent. Like I said, we know he has a match with Styles at Crown Jewel, which should be another good match for Cena’s last run. Styles may also be in his last few months of his career, but he is still able to go and put on great matches when needed, and Cena has stepped up since his match with CM Punk at Night of Champions. I think Cena is going to pull out the win here, before he heads into his last four appearances.

Dominik Mysterio

This is the one caveat with putting others over, Dom doesn’t need a win over Cena to get over, and the Intercontinental Championship is still the only title in the WWE he hasn’t won. I can see Dom going over Rusev due to the Americanos, and then, Adam Pearce will force Dom to defend his title, with the Americanos banned from ringside, against a surprise opponent. That opponent will, of course, be Cena, and without his backup and having issues with The Judgement Day Dom won’t have anyone to help him, and Cena will finally get to win the Intercontinental Championship only to get attacked by The Vision after.

WarGames

Due to the attack by The Vision, Cena will join up with Reigns, The Usos, and Punk to take The Vision on in WarGames. This will be Cena’s last Survivor Series and his first and only WarGames match. He will be able to take some big bumps while still staying relatively safe. Also, who doesn’t want to see Cena muscle up Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker or Seth Rollins for an AA? It would be a great homage to the Big Show and Edge spot and provide a great visual they can use for replays for years. Ultimately, I think the face team wins here, not so much because of Cena (I think Breakker and Cena will have a big spot that takes them both out), but still a win for the faces.

Dominik Mysterio

Round two for Dom will happen post Survivor Series, Cena can do an open challenge, and Dom will answer the call. The Americanos won’t be banned here, and so Dom will be able to use the numbers game to get the upper hand. Cena will put up a valiant effort, but with three Americanos and a loaded mask, he will drop the title back to Dom. I didn’t touch on it with the first match, but I do think Dom will be able to have fun matches with Cena. He has borrowed heavily from Eddie Guerrero, who had a great feud with Cena back in 2003, and I’m not saying Dom is at Guerrero’s level, but he is still a good wrestler. Also, with Dom channeling Eddie Guerrero, there is the nostalgia factor of Cena’s former rivals, which will only add to the match-up.

Bron Breakker

Bron being Cena’s last match will help push Bron further into the main event. Retiring Cena will give him something to brag about for years. If he can beat Cena at Saturday Night’s Main Event and then go on to beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, he will be able to say not only did he retire Cena, but he slew the beast that Cena couldn’t. Also, just imagine what kind of promo/intro Heyman will be doing for Breakker after he retires Cena? Heyman is great at finding ways to hype up those big accomplishments, and that will just add even more to the aura of Breakker as he continues on his path to a future World Champion.

Cena’s final run hasn’t been the best. There was the whole convoluted heel run, which didn’t make much sense after The Rock decided not to show up again after Elimination Chamber, a face turn that should have happened after the match at SummerSlam, and some lackluster matches in the beginning. With that said, I do think that these last three months can still be fun and be used to help give the rub to Dom and Breakker, while allowing Cena to hang his hat on some strong matches before he walks back up that ramp one last time.
