Csonka’s EVOLVE 103 Preview
WELCOME back to column time with Larry! Today, I am going to discuss and preview the EVOLVE 103 event. WWN has another loaded WrestleMania weekend slate of events, and today we look at EVOLVE 103, featuring a good looking card, and some high-quality guest stars coming in for the weekend. Feel free to make your picks in the comment section. Thanks for reading! It’s wrestling, we love it and will disagree. The only rules are “have a take, be respectful, and don’t be a dick.” NOTE: You’ll have to work with me a bit on these columns, as I am previewing a set of shows that are linked together and trying to sort out the likely booking and at EVOLVE 102, and go from there to try and make sense of everything the best I can.
Timothy Thatcher vs. Dominic Garrini: Garrini is the newest member of Catch Point, and has put in some dominating performances on the prelims. On the main shows, Garrini has performed well, but hasn’t found success in terms of winning, and that will continue here. Thatcher is the former EVOLVE champion and is looking to get back on track as far as singles wins go. The match will heavily rely on striking and submissions, so depending on how much you enjoy that style will determine how much you get into this match. Thatcher picks up the win here. WINNER: Timothy Thatcher
Four Way Freestyle: AR Fox vs. DJZ vs. Jason Kincaid vs. Tracy Williams: This should be a lot of fun. Fox & DJZ will bring the high energy and highflying, Kincaid will likely bring some fun and Williams will be the anchor and try to play spoiler. I have Fox and DJZ losing at 102 in singles matches, and Williams will likely be losing in his tag match. They will all be looking for a big win to get some momentum back; Kincaid is the low man on the totem pole, so I don’t see him as much of a threat here. With Fox recently losing a WWN title match, I think that he rebounds here from the loss to Ospreay the night before, and picks up the win here in what will likely be w wildly fun and chaotic match. WINNER: AR Fox
Non-Title Match WWN Champion Keith Lee vs. Austin Theory: Keith Lee is the current reigning WWN Champion and has been doing well and has really grown into the role. Theory is the current, reigning and defending FIP Champion, and star on the rise. But after putting together a great run, Theory failed to capture the EVOLVE title at EVOLVE 100, losing to Zack Sabre Jr. At EVOLVE 101, he failed in a four-way #1 contender’s match, losing out to Matt Riddle, Darby Allin, & Jaka. Riddle won the title shot, while Theory’s anger grew. WWN Officials have decided to suspend Priscilla Kelly from the WWNLive Experience, so Theory will have to go I alone during the weekend here. Theory should be coming off of an EVOLVE 102 win over DJZ, giving him some much-needed momentum. This feels like a match to give Theory a good outing and make him look good, but Lee should pick up the win to solidify his momentum for his match at the WWN Supershow against Daisuke Sekimoto. WINNER: Keith Lee
Jaka vs. Munenori Sawa: Jaka has a great 2017 in EVOLVE, so I am thrilled to see that he’s getting a high profile singles match with Sawa here. I firmly believe that Jaka & Dickinson are headed towards the singles ranks full time, and this match here will be a chance for Jaka to continue to shine and deliver, but to do so on the biggest stage of the year. I have extremely high hopes for Jaka in 2018, and under the guidance of Stokely Hathaway, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him work his way back into the title scene and take home some singles gold. But this match isn’t about winning; this is about giving him a showcase against a special guest star. This is n extremely important match for Jaka. With Sawa set to face Zack Sabre Jr. at the WWN Supershow, he should pick up the win here. WINNER: Sawa
WALTER vs. Darby Allin: So if Darby Allin survives Keith Lee at EVOLVE 102, his reward is the big fucking Daddy WALTER? Darby Allin is going to die on WrestleMania weekend in 2018, got it. But in all seriousness, Allin is a great underdog performer, who always gets the crowds into his matches. Much like the Lee match, watching him pinball for Lee and scoring some fun desperation near falls will be what makes this match. But unfortunately for him, WALTER is a completely different beast than Lee. WALTER don’t do big lad flippies, WALTER tosses you around, mauls you like a bear, will chop your chest until you bleed, and just when you think you’ve had enough, he’ll go technical and choke you out without a second thought. With WALTER likely losing in the tag match the night before, and Allin’s redemption story still ongoing, I think the big daddy destroys poor Darby here. WINNER: WALTER
Chris Dickinson vs. Travis Banks: These two faced off previously in tag team action, and are now taking the feud to the singles ranks. Dickinson has been getting more chances in the EVOLVE singles ranks, which is where I feel he and Jaka are heading for on a permanent basis. With TK Cooper out injured, Banks has been working more as a singles and I find him to be a fun performer. It’ll be interesting to see how this one shakes out, it should be good; at the time of this writing, Banks is the PROGRESS champion, which leads me to believe that he picks up the win here. WINNER: Travis Banks
Matt Riddle vs. Daisuke Sekimoto: The EVOLVE 103 card has a little something for everyone; highfliers, grapplers, HOSSES, underdogs, special guests and of course the bro. The card has the potential to deliver a great show, and Riddle vs. Sekimoto is a great main event to close the show. Riddle working 15-minute sprints against big lads that will take big shots and hit hard in return is all the money, and the kinds of matches he thrives in and always delivers. Sekimoto working the WWN Live shows will hopefully introduce him to a lot of new fans, and also hopefully draw some more attention to the WWN Live weekend shows. I have very high hopes for this match, and not only think that it will be great, but has the potential to steal the weekend. With Sekimoto set to face Keith Lee at the WWN Supershow for the WWN Title, he should pick up the win here. WINNER: Daisuke Sekimoto
