MJF Reportedly Never Booked Flight Out Of Las Vegas, Update On AEW’s Future Plans For Him
Over the weekend, MJF missed his scheduled appearance at the AEW Fanfest, leading to speculation that he may miss Double or Nothing. He eventually showed up at the PPV and lost to Wardlow, later stating that he left right after and has “a lot to think about.”
There had been reports on Saturday night from Fightful and elsewhere that MJF had booked a flight out of Las Vegas. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, a flight for Friedman was never booked out of the city. Bryan Alvarez noted that the other journalists genuinely believed the flight was booked because they had seen evidence pointing that way. However, there was no record that a Maxwell Friedman ever bought a ticket for the flight. There were records that he was going to fly out after the PPV, but none set for before. If he had booked a flight to leave early, he would have cancelled the later flight. All this means, of course, is that he was in Las Vegas the entire time.
Both Alvarez and Dave Meltzer were adamant that the situation was not a work at first. However, it was noted they likely came to an agreement and Friedman not showing up at the PPV until the last second was part of it. They previously pulled advertising for the match but listed it again later. The match with Wardlow was always planned to go on first.
Meanwhile, PWInsider and the WOR note that there is an expectation that he will not be traveling with AEW for the next several TV tapings at least, maybe longer. Alvarez noted that he expects MJF will appear on AEW TV again.
