Backstage Word on Possible New WWE Hire

The forces of authority in WWE may be bolstered soon, According to a Fightful Select “Update and Debunkathon,” WWE is looking into bringing in a new referee.
We know that last year, AEW alumnus Layla Hirsch was offered a tryout in a ref role. WWE might also have realized that they need more backup after personal tragedy befell official Daphanie LaShaunn. LaShaunn’s grandparents, uncle, and cousin were killed in a house fire — obviously an unusually terrible tragedy, but one that might have indicated more support is needed for unexpected moments in general.
WWE currently employs around 21 referees across its three main shows, not counting AAA. Some of them, like Charles Robinson and Jessika Carr, have their own fan followings, though that’s not the norm. Rarer still are refs who move into a manager role, as Teddy Long once did. It’s unknown if trying out someone like Hirsch means they want a more character-driven ref this time.
